Question Pop Charger and Nismo Exhaust

In honor of the search feature not working, I have a topic that's probably been beat to death, but I'd really like to know, so...

There are two mods I'm considering in the near-term: the JWT Pop Charger and the Nismo exhaust. How do you all like them, both individually and combined? Anyone notice a difference in power at all (butt dyno)? How bad-a$$ do they sound? I know the Pop Charger is supposed to sound great, but how about the Nismo exhaust? Also, anyone have any idea how the Nismo intake compares to the Pop Charger (besides being around twice the price!)

Thanks!

My dyno with just the Nismo exhaust was 254, I have not yet done a dyno with the pop charger, but I love the sound that it makes when it slurps up air. I can't notice a difference in HP from it alone but it sounds really nice. The Nismo exhaust sounds great too I get lots of compliments.. I would recommend the pop charger over the nismo intake, i worry about it getting wet more than a pop charger would..

Love mine!! I originally had the Nismo intake, but switched to the JWT after installing their cams. The sound alone from the intake was worth the price. Also my car with cams, headers, RT cats. JIC Y-pipe and nismo exhaust is a bit loud a I get pulled over a bunch, but never seem to get a ticket for it. You can get a bit more info here:

Enjoy.....

The Nismo Exhaust + Popcharger sounds sweeeet.

But for sound it is all opinion. Do you want something loud or quiet? IMO the Nismo exhaust alone is to quiet ( but still sounds awesome, and is a notch louder then stock ) but with HF cats it's AWESOME. I had HF cats on there with my Nismo exhaust and had to take them off for certain reasons. I can NOT stand howquiet it is without the cats anymore! I am getting HF cats again when I get the chance.

I just installed both mods last week, and the sound couldnt be better! Not sure about the gains though. But truthfully are you really looking for gains or sound? If sound then this combo will give you an improvement with out being obnoxsious. Go for it...

I think you all confirmed that this relatively inexpensive combo will give me what I want: sweet sound without being too LOUD. Of course, more power would be great, but I know I'll have to pony up for some sort of FI for really big gains.

So, now I ask: how were the installs? I imagine I can install the Pop Charger myself, but how much should I be looking at to install the install for the exhaust?

Also, what are your recommendations on a) where to buy the mods, and b) where to get the exhaust installed in central NJ.

Thanks!

Jeff, is there a real difference in sound between Nismo intake and JWT Pop charger. is it that noticeable? I know that JWT is a lot easier to get to and clean the filter but I thought they were about the same in performance and sound.

Installed the Popcharger myself in 30-40 minutes. Only took that long because I hads trouble getting the skrew threw the air snorkle.

Installed the exhaust myself in 25-30 minutes. Used my friends lift.

But yeah, IMO this set up is for the people who don;t want anything very loud at all. The Pop charger sounds great at 4.5k and above, and when you first punch it you get a whistle, or loud air sucking sound. The exhaust is just a notch higher then stock.

With HF cats though, the sound is PERFECT IMO. Not extreamly loud like injen + cats, just perfect. Cant wait to get HF cats again.

Can't help you with where to install in your area, sorry. I just drove around asking different shops.

Jason, which HF Cats did you have/are you getting? Will they pass emissions testing? Thanks.

Had kinetix, and I am going to get Crawfords.

They will pass the actual smog test, but would not pass visual. By law, at least in CA ( VERY STRICT ) you are not allowed to change your cats within a certain mileage unless they are damaged.

But also, from looking at them, some may not be able to tell they are aftermarket. You just have to find a place that doesnt really care.

While installing my cats, a smog guy from next door was looking at my car on the lift. He loved it! He was saying it looked great, and tld me it sounded great when I took it down. Someone like him, I don't think he would care.

If you get cats it will be much louder, but still not as loud as some setups. But IMO, I cant deal with how quiet it is without cats, after having them.

If the Nismo exhaust is a notch louder than the stock exhaust, how much louder is the Borla and Greddy Evo exhaust?

adamslad, the popcharger should not be a problem to install like he said before the only problem was getting those damb screws in the air inlet. If your brave ( or crazy like me) you can also install the exhaust yourself just jack the car with a 2-ton jack by the rear be sure to use a block of wood and line it up in the middle ( i put two safety jacks under the axle just in case) most people prob wouldnt do this but it worked for me everything lined up just like stock. If you dont feel comfortable doing this just bring it to a shop they should only charge you around 65-85 dollars

Borla is on the quieter side with Nismo as well. Don;t get me wrong, they arnt reeeaally quiet. They are a nothc louder then stock and I believe some people have said it is to loud for them, but not to most. I also think Borla is a tad louder then Nismo but is more of a deeper sound.

Havnt heard the Greddy Evo, but the more I see things about it, the more I think I should have looked into that one.

Would consider a trade if anyones intrested in my area Of course, I would have to hear it first. The exhaustsare the same price too.

Borlas cheaper, and comes in multiple pieces which some people don't like. I have heard it could lead to fitment issues, or air leaks ( no problems with most people )

I got the Nismo one because it is a quality product, looks nice, sounds nice, and it comes in only 3 simple parts with amazing welds everywhere. I also liked how the tips angle up with the lines of the rear bumper. Also like how they sound with High flow cats.

After listening to a sound clip of the Greddy, I think it's a bit to loud for my taste. I am looking for a quitter sound but maximum HP gains along with it. If I recall, Nismo is good for 6 and the Borla is around a 10 HP increase. If it is just a bit louder than the Nismo, I could live that for the extra 4 ponies. I have read in other threads that the fit is sometimes a problem. I would hope if I had it professionally installed I would not have any issues but, who knows. I have searched for sound clips of the Borla and Nismo with the exhaust being the only mods and have not found any.
Does anyone know where I can find them?

Borla is good for about 8 rwhp, not 10. And that is correct, Nismo is good for 6.

I like the stock sound, but wanted louder. I also wanter a quality fit and finish. I got all of that with the Nismo. Borla is a nice exhaust though.

Nismo + HF cats = But to loud for you
