Default Make the case for new Headers

Having used the search feature I have not been able to determine what the case is for replacing the stock headers. Anyone care to contribute why they changed from stock and what they have actually realized. Also, aside from quality alone are the high end Headers (Crawford/Nismo) significantly better than the low end (Borla)and in what way? Thanks..

all i know from what i have read and researched is that they are a pain in the azz to DYI install, otherwise shop time is about 4 hours so figure that into your budget...the debate goes on as to which has the best gains for the money but you definately only want to do this mod once, and one time only....also, where are you looking to gain power should factor into your decision....besides that go with stainless

I have a quote of $250.0 to install (Borla)from my dealer . What I'm hoping to find out is what's not good about the stock that so many folks have modified?

$250 is good for an installed price. Some sponsors here quoted me $400.

As for performance, I've read the Borla doesn't make as much power as the Stillen and Nismo headers. Both Nismo and Stillen headers produce about the same gains, Nismo might be slightly better overall throughout the entire RPM range. DC makes headers with some people claiming good gains but I have only seen one dyno sheet.

I am planning on getting the ceramic coated Stillen header for around $820 to add to my plenum and hiflo cats. I think this should open up the z and add decent power for the price.

I just bought my headers and exhaust directly from Stillen - if you ask you may get them cheaper, i got the ceramic coated for 799 - since i'm in texas, no tax and shipping was cheap too

Here is a pic of the Nismo headers.

Here is a pic of my stock headers. As you can see there is some restriction and there kinda of ugly too.

Agreed. The stock Headers have some pretty restrictive looking Primaries and collectors .

How do the stillen and nismo headers compare to the CD sports headers?

My header recommendations would be either Nismo, Crawford or Stillen. All have proven gains. Do something. But get the stock headers out of your car if you choose the NA route. If you plan on going turbo dont waste your money on headers. Turbo kits have their own headers.

i'd suggest the crawfords. but not enough $$ in my pockets for them and the install costs.

are the gains really worth the cost?

new headers and installation has to be around 1K....there are mods with equal or greater gains for less money...i do plan to upgrade but this will be one of the last mods on my list...

the stockers do look very restrictive....if these were easier to install they would be higher on my priority list

actually i think many of the headers out there are around or more than 1k, minus DC and Borla. Installation will probably be another $300 or so.
