Question Nismo Intake? Power Loss?

Does anyone with the nismo intake feel they are losing power? My Z has a nismo cai and borla td and ran slower times at the track than z's with just a jwt intake. 14.1 was my best time with a 101 trap. What do guys think, should I trade in the nismo for jwt?

Yeah I think it feels faster, but the times don't say that yet. The track is not all that great, but I should at least be able to produce stock times. Headers are on the way, that should help. I heard so many good things about the jwt intake and so much bad stuff about the nismo.

I don't know for sure, but I am pretty sure the JWT intake has the best gains of any "intake", and that most CAI, including the Injen, Nismo, AEM all either had very minimal HP gains, if not losses. I am ordering a JWT with Injen Exhaust soon.

what were the tempreture gains...

was it a recent runs that you are comparing?

because months ago it was colder out then it is now...

also...the underbody aero dynamics change... the small mufflers of the borla do not fill up that gap infront of the rear bumper so you could be catching air up in there...

I'm not comparing runs, that's the fastest the car has run so far. I just have doubts about the design.

1.How can the air 5.5 inches from the ground (with hot texas asphault) be cool.

2.There doesn't seem to be much flow where the filter is located.

3.The length of the tubing (almost twice as long as the original intake makes the engine work harder to suck up the air, especially if the filter is not in direct contact with airflow.

I was very happy with the Nismo Intake at first, I think it works very good while it is cool outside. But everytime the roads heat up my performance and mileage go way down. I understand this is normal. I think the jwt may be a better design than the nismo if it is, i'll prob switch. it just seems that jwt is using the same principles that the oem airbox used. It gets cool air from the oem inlet, and it is directly in the airstream. This would pressurize theintake and the rate of velocity in the intake right?

C'mon the gains from an intake alone, even the JWT which has the biggest gains, are so small I doubt you will even notice before and after differences in 1/4 mile time between different intakes. All of the scientific points you made are valid but they don't really amount to that much difference. As it was stated earlier track conditions and weather have a much greater effect as well as driver inconsistencies. I only put the Nismo intake on because i won it at a raffle, otherwise I would of stayed stock or went JWT but now that it's on, I'm not switching, it's just not that big of a deal, in my opinion.

Comparing your et/mph against someone else's is about as worthless as comparing dyno pulls. Every car is different.

What was your mph before and after the mods? That would be a better indicator of power increase/decrease.

Personally, I question this whole notion of "cold air intake" -- the intake manifold is heated by engine coolant plumbed to the section right near the throttle body, and it needs to do a pretty good job of getting the intake air warm to ensure cold weather driveability....

I think the gains, if any, from CAI systems are tuned-pipe effects, and possibly less restrictive filters/plumbing. But the cold air aspect sounds like hot air to me........

I don't have before and after times. I plan on going back to the track and trying again. I don't think the new intake will make that much difference, I'm just afraid I'm losing power, b/c I've heard some bad reviews on forums, I will probably stay with nismo, as long as I dont lose power. Maybe one night I'll put in the stock box and make some runs.

That would definately work, I thought about the stock box with nismo drop in, that would be exactly like the one in the nismo s-1 car. It's 3 inch piping. Where is the MAF sensor on the s-1, I don't see it.

I have actually tried both the jwt and nismo...there are slight variances for both, some times it felt the jwt was pullin better but so is the case with the nismo...the hp gains were not too crazy but now it's just a matter of preference for me...i stuck with the nismo...some day i'll probably upgrade to something else...i like the way the car runs...it's all a matter of preference and what you intend to do with it...

I still am under the impression that without a fuel computer the JWT is the best. I am going to do a Intake test next month with all of them. JWT, Injen, AEM, and if some one has a nismo around we will ad that one in as well, But im not going to buy one to test it.

isnt the aem the same thing as nismo? and isnt the aem intake known to not provide any gains or even lose hp?

Thats what they say, but I don't think it has been proven. You really can't dyno a CAI, I think in the real world, they probably all do good.

If you are going to talk about track times, then please post the entire time slip from both runs. I mean maybe you got a 2.0 60 foot when you went to the track with your JWT and now you only got a 2.2 or 2.3 60 foot which will definitely affect your 1/4 mile time. An intake won't affect how well you launch the car. What was the difference in MPH?

I don't have seperate timeslips, the car was never tracked while it was stock, that's why I am asking your opinions.
