UT Y-Pipe vs. Borla TD System
sorry guys, I need to vent. I spent HOURS researching different exhaust systems. I Finally narrowed it down to the Injen SES or the Borla TD. I decided on the Borla, and now, I just HAD to read the Thread about UT's new Y-Pipe coming out. Now Im back to square ONE!!!!.
what to do, what to do.
The Y-Pipe SEEMS to show the most gains, higher than that of Any and all Complete cat-backs systems, assuming the numbers are close to what they claim. Im now leaning toward the y-pipe, I think.................................

Whatever he does, remember he's in California, and Resonated Test Pipes are not the hot ticket out there. Go with Hi-Flow Cats, like the Crawfords.
BTW, if I were you, I'd stay with your first choice. I like a good set of duals.

Ultimate Racing Cats are a great solution to Test Pipes in California. I love mine.
I was also thinking about removing my Nismo exhaust for the UT Y-pipe and return the stock exhaust. I am waiting for more proof the UT Y-pipe produces gains.

I also dont want to do anything that COULD eventually throw a CEL, as HF cats usually do, (did on my last car, about 2k miles after install). Im keeping the stock cats, all I wanted was alittle gain in power and a SLIGHTLY louder (but similar to stock) exhaust, which is why I ultimately chose the Borla.
Less chance of rattles and leaks with the y-pipe, and it isnt 17 pieces!!! The gains would appear to be similar, but who the hell knows,.

That y-pipe is beautiful, maybe go with the y-pipe and resonated test pipes. It would keep the stock note, but louder.

No one on this forum as reported CEL or any type of electrical problem after installing Hi-Flows on the "G" or "Z". The stock Cat is the most restrictive part of the exhaust system. Anything else you do to the exhaust will not be as optimal as it could be with the stock cats. I know, I ran a dual system that I thought was doing just great, when I put on the Crawfords, wow, what a difference. The first thing to do to the exhaust is CHANGE the cats!
Look here, you'll see why CEL is not an issue with cats, although some have issued with test pipes:

go with borla....a y pipe isnt true dual...obviously...ur hearing claims from the manufacturer just like everyother....u can never go by thier numbers....borla has shown its quality and many people can attest to its hp gains
YOu can get high flow cats at Crawford Z Car
http://www.crawfordzcar.com
or Kinetix Racing
http://www.kinetixracing.com
Stay away from Random Technology high flow cats, they are known to break up and become useless. This has not only happened in the Z, but in 240SXs and Maximas as well.

Thanks for the info......Did I read that right though?! We have 4 cats? from the Crawford site: "As you can see, 350Z owners are carrying four cats on-board"....
Do the aftermarket cats alter the sound much? $450? lol

Okay, thanks again guys. Im ordering the Borla TD first thing tomorrow, and will be getting the Crawford Cats sometime next month.
I guess I'll just be shlt out of luck when I come to find out, later, the Y-Pipe actually DOES produce the gains they claim it does

i have the crawford HF's....
you might wanna call Doug and get on "the list" as he's normqally 3-6 weeks behind on these (and most other) goodies.....
also, he can weld an extra O² bung upstream of the cat for future wideband monitoring (just plug it til the time comes for the wideband install) for 30$...
the borla will give a deeper sound, but it is not louder (rather , quieter, as it has no backdraw sound)
good luck!

IMO, wait for REAL results on the y-pipe. In the mean time, buy an exhaust which would be compatable with the y-pipe (any exhaust except a TD). Throw on some HF cats, or test pipes, then buy the y-pipe last, if it proves to gain as much as advertised.
thanks ace! now i will be looking for some exhaust
edit:
yay!i just ordered RS-R Exmag GT-II Exhaust, nismo r-tune headers, jwt pop charger, and that's it. still looking around for high flow cat's. i cant wait to get my stuff!!!
