Default Loud noise from front tire

I have a loud noise coming from my front right tire. It sounds like I have a flat tire! I took it to the dealership and they said that I bent my rim. I replaced all rims with new chrome wheels but I still have the same noise. They said the tires are fine just a lil' worn. I only have 7k on the tires so I cant imagine I need new tires. I got an alignment hoping that would fix it and it didnt either. Any ideas anyone???? No one seems to know anything anywhere I go!!!! Thx!!!!

If it's tire cupping, you should hear a loud roaring noise at low speed.

Not cupping but the technical name is: Heel/toe feathering caused by tires having too deep tread blocks which squirms under load and toe in going straight on highway..............common when tires are not designed to live under high caster/camber stress.

Alignment must be KEPT PRECISE........what happens when you try too design race car like handling and try to maintain a decent ride.........the tires give up. Less camber, less caster, less loaded toe..........[what ever static toe yields Zero going 60 mph] will help but decreases handling in the curves.

Directional tires which are expensive to demount and flip every 3,750 miles vs non directional equal sizes that are easily rotated every 90 days with the oil change which would solve the feathering problem.

If you examine performance cars with directional ultra tires in the same weight class you will see the same problems across the board.

Average driver doesn't want the problems much less to pay for them yet they want the peformance........no free lunch.

Stop spreading lies. It is 95% of the people posting in this forum that have it. The VAST MAJORITY DO NOT HAVE FEATHERING.

It is absolutely NOT lies.

Yes, 95% of the people postng in these forums have the problem but the people in these forums represent a very small percentage of the real world 350Z community where they have never heard of this forums.

I live in a part of the country where I see a lot of 350Z's on the road and every single one I have ever looked at up close has the front tire feathering problem. When I speak to the owners 95% of them do not even know they have the problem or even that they can complain about it, until it is too late and the tires are already shot.

Hmm, I hang with 5 350Zs in North West Florida and none of us have feathering or have taken in our cars for feathering. That includes a guy with over 20,000 miles on his stock tires. So I guess that means that there are 95 350Zs in my area that have feathering. I guess we just got lucky ones.

You must have because EVERYONE I know with a Z has this problem.

and if you do not have it, why do you feel the need to belittle the problems other are having?

Let me tell you it freaking sucks to have your car vibrate like this after only 4k miles EVERY TIME.

There is no belittleing. There is a serious problem of over exageration of the problem that is scaring the hell out of any newbie that comes to this board. While those of us that don't have the problem get slammed for stating that it doesn't happen to everyone. So the infamous "feathering" is not just a noise problem when braking at low speeds any more. It causes vibrations too every 4,000 miles on the dot huh. I guess I better bring mine in cause mine vibrated the other day but I thought it was just some pebbles on the road. I bet my tires are feathered.

The reality of the issue is more Zs (03 and 04s) experience feathering than don't. You can't even argue this fact. Sheridan Nissan has serviced 62% of the Zs they've sold for feathering. There is no exaggeration of the problem. It is a real, tangible issue.

Oh really, I couldn't believe that so I decided to go to your source. Here you go, an e-mail response from Sheridan Nissan:

I DON’T BELIEVE THAT 62 % IS AN ACCURATE NUMBER. IT MIGHT FEEL LIKE IT BUT IT MIGHT BE MORE LIKE 20 TO 25%

I was told by someone that you have serviced 62% of the 350Zs you have sold for the “feathering” issue. I was wondering if this is true, as I don’t believe that over 50% of the 350Zs have this problem.

Thanks,
Chris Tuttell

I just got my fronts replaced for a second occurrence of tire feathering. One thing you gotta remember, nobody realizes how loud there car really is until you actually get the problem fixed. In my case, I never really knew how loud the car was until passengers would ask, why is your car so loud? I was a firm believer that not everybody suffered from the feathering problem, but now I just believe that almost everybody has or will suffer the tire feathering problem - they just dont know it. That's simply because the sound grows slowly and you slowly get accustomed to it not realizing it.

Ouch. Tut blew up that guy's blatant lie.

I had problems with feathering but I certainly know a handful of owners that haven't. But who cares I gritted my teeth for 20k miles and got a new set of fronts after the old ones would have been near shot anyway.
