Q: TSB's and $$$$
Hi, have a question that's not directly related to my Z but it does pertain to Nissan, service, TSB's and who's responsible for charges.
I have a 2001 Nissan Frontier that I purchased used (from Nissan) with 32K on the odometer. It now has about 45K and the service engine light came on. Took it to the dealer and there is a TSB that states that the computer must be upgraded. The catch is, since it wasn't done at the 30K service they're telling me that I'm responsible for the $83 charge. Now... I didn't own the vehicle at 30K. I've seen the TSB and nowhere does it state anything about 30K. Simply says if the check engine light comes on, this vehicle needs to be upgraded. Shouldn't this repair be Nissan's financial obligation?
Has anyone had similar experiences with their Z and TSB's? Are TSB's always the owners responsibility and not the dealers?
And another thing I found amusing, the service guy said they don't keep track of servicing in their computer! Why do I not believe this?

Recalls would be Nissan's responsibility. TSB's is yours if out of warranty.
TSB's from what I remember are model specific when technical service is needed. Not all TSB's apply to all cars in that particular model. Meaning not all 350Z's will have the same problems.

I'm glad I cancelled the extended warranty on my Z, because it hasn't covered a damn thing on the truck. I really need to find a different dealer because this one is souring me on owning a Nissan.
