I did a search on this problem, and found quite a few threads mentioning it was known and Nissan had a TSB for it. Does anyone know the TSB number? I tried to find it on the AllData website, but none of the TSBs listed looked right.

Basically, the problem is just as others have described in the threads I dug up: when I start from a stop (in forward or reverse) with the windows down I can hear a creaking/clicking sound coming from the rear of the car. The threads I found mentioned it had something to do with the axle bearings. Sound about right?

i have the same problem. It happen at 8K miles. 05 ZR. Will stop by dealer this weekend.

 

Nice! EZ search! My axle just started clicking a few days ago as well. I wonder if I should go to the track event on Friday

 

had the clicking for well over 5-8k miles....i heard its a simple bearing or something...haven't taken it to the dealer yet, but when i do ill take the TSB and show it to them...i just dont have the time and patients to deal with dealerships...but i guess one day when i get time i will get it fixed....not major...just anoyying...

Just took mine to the dealer today. They took one listen and said it was indeed the TSB I listed up above. The new parts are on order and should be here in a couple of days. No fuss so far.

One thing I did mean to ask was how serious the problem is, and if it's safe to drive hard on it in the meantime, go on a long drive, etc. But if there are folks here who've had the problem for 5000+ miles and haven't dealt with it, then I'm thinking it's probably okay. Probably even okay for track use.

 

i had it for quite some time before i found the tsb and got it fixed.

 

schedule for fix up at dealer today. Hopefully they will fix it for good. Will ask them to take a look at aligment issue too.

 

This has happened to both of my axles over time. The first time I brought it in, they said that they needed to do "advanced troubleshooting" then they kept ot fpr a few days

 

everything is fixed. They have part in stock. Half day and it's all done.

 

Jus curious about this, I have 900 miles on my 05 ZR and it sounds weird when I pull away from a stop, like something is clickin or like a chain is under there, really awkward. I am assuming 05's won;t be covered since there is no TSB?

Is this a problem like everyone else? Just making sure its not normal! BTW, this happens when I slowly pull away going forward.

normally, this only happen once you hit over 8K. My car is 05 and had the same problem. The right rear wheel. When you accelerate or back up, you will have a click noise.

 

Yeah, your '05 problems definitely sound like the issue at hand here. Even if it's not a TSB, it should still be covered under warranty. TSBs are nice because I *believe* people out of warranty can still take advantage of them. A TSB is basically how a car manufacturer admits there is a design flaw. But even if there isn't a TSB, problems with your car should be covered under warranty regardless. Having a TSB simply makes things a bit easier. Gives the mechanics something to watch out for, and can make it easier to diagnose since they are made aware that there is a widespread problem to keep an eye out for.

 

I had the problem at 11,000 miles from the right. They fixed that while replacing the transmission that was no good. Im now at 19,000 and it sounds like its coming from the left. I'll have to take her to the dealer again.

Well, yeah, but what brings the '03 ratings down are all the problems they had. Tons of stupid little things (grease streaking on windows, etc) and a few big things (bad trannies, etc). These were all warrantied items, but it's still a hassle and most people will down-rate a car for it. With the 04s and 05s, Nissan corrected most of these problems and thus got better ratings.

 

If I'm not mistaken, all of the TSB related to the 2003 models are inclusive of the 2004 models as well. The '05 model has not been on the road long enough to say that the trannies will not have problems. I'm sure that they have fixed the window streaks/motors and such though.

 

Hmm... I hadn't heard of this. I thought that a TSB for a given year was only for that year.
