Do a search for throw out bearing. That should be the culprit.

More than likely the throwout bearing is causing the noise, since almost every throwout bearing will cause some noise. Ask the dealer flukies or just compare your noise to other Z's. If you noise is much louder, you need a replmt bearing.

Not necessary to replace the bearing when you have tranny off. It is, however extremely foolish to not replace the bearing at that time since you will have the expensive part of the job (tranny off) anyway.

It's also a good time to make any clutch/flywheel repairs or upgrades.

If you have the tranny off, the additional labor charges to replace the clutch/flywheel should not be more than about $80. The clutch/flywheel represents about 15 minutes extra work.

I've been told countless times, the noise is normal.
