Pump Cutoff??
I seen in other post that people have tried to fill their gas tank but gets cutoff at half a tank. I just found out I had the same problem. Has anyone found out the reason behind this??

ive now had problems pumping gas about three times.
now im pretty sure that what causes the tank to cut off at half tank is because the car is tilted/inclined towards the passenger side.
every time ive had a problem this has been the case. when i moved to a level area or where the car was tilted the other way, after that, i've never had any problems.

I have 200 miles and i got this problem. Tank is half full and fuel pump clicks off when I tried to fill it. I thought it was the angle of the tank too. Have to try filling it again once the snow clears. But I did find a thread about this here, and seems like alot of people have this problem too, yet no one got a real solution for this. And yes I know how to pump gas.

I found if I hold the pump handle upside down, the fuel goes in with no problem at all, it just doesn't cut off til it starts to ooverflow, so you have to watch it.
I figure that maybe the filler neck curves up, while the pump nozzle curves down and that is what causes the prob.

I've had the pump shutoff if I run it too high. Now I put it on the lowest setting and watch the traffic go by and the tank fills up.
I expect that it is a combination of several shrewd guesses in this thread. The fill pipe curves just right to back up to the nozzle and shut off. The other about being on a level surface is pretty good also and it could make the problem worse.

I have not had this problem with my Z, but I have had it with my 87 Acura Integra and my 78 Pontiac. Both cars required either playing around with the angle of the filler (maybe holding it upsidedown) or just pumping at 1/2 speed. I believe it has to do with pressure building up in the tank causing the gas not to flow in smoothly. This is not a problem with just our Z...

Well seeing how there was no snow on the ground today, I decided to go fill up my tank. AND it actually did!. I think theres something about that pressure thing jeffa55 mention, cause when it first happened I was driving it a bit then filled up. This time I drove straight to my gas station and turned it off for about a min or two and it filled with no problems.
Well have to see when the weather is warmer if it'll fill up again.
