Default New brake pads at 17k; $240!!!!

Does this sound right? I've had my 04 for two years now. I have 17,500 miles on it, and I needed to replace the front brake pads. The job cost me $240, of which 130 was labor.

I always come home from the dealer feeling shafted. Does this sound right? Should I downshift more?

I'm gonna have to sell my Z for a Civic if I have to pay $240 every 17k.

Did they resurface the rotors too? or just replace the pads. They are not that hard to change and shouldn't take more than an hour for labor. FYI here in the bay area the shop rate is like $120 per hr so it adds up quick. If the tech goes to take a dump and is gone for 5 min it cost you 10 bucks! So lets say $120 for the pads and 1 hr labor, your at $240 pretty quick.

If they don't turn the rotors, then its a ripoff. Still kinda high, I would have them turn the rotors, and give them Hawks to install. Hawks run $70 not $110 like the stealership is charging. + no brake dust!

If it was me, I would have them turn the front rotors and have them install the Hawks that you buy, www.tirrack.com.

17K miles is kinda low miles to have the rotors turned though. Might as well change the fluid while they are at it.

Yeah , for $130, they better turn/resurface your rotors and bleed the brakes!
It's not uncommon for Z's front pad to let go that soon though (Non-Brembo)

i replaced my front and rear brake pads last month at 16k(DIY project) took about two hours if you take Miller times in between pads. The fronts still had 25% left, it could have lasted another 3k miles easily but i replaced them to get rid of that little squeak. The rear still had 60% left, i changed them anyway (saved them for next time around). Those nissan rotors were still in excellent shape and there was no need to turn them at 16k. The cost of the entire project was under 110 plus two six packs of beer. i used OEMs cuz i like softer pads and the brake dust don't bother me whatsoever..... the dust matches those gunmetal rims....never never needed to be cleaned.
