Smell of Gas Through the Ventilation System
Hey I was driving around Fairfax, Va. w/ my girlfriend the other day. I was at a stop sign when I went to take off. I had the car in 3rd gear. For about 3 seconds I gave it gas and wondered why it wouldn't take off. I then realized that it was in 3rd and I finally got it into the right gear.
As the car took off, I smelled gas. This happened on another occasion. I had to stop on a really steep hill and I had to give it a lot of gas in 1st to ensure that it would not roll back when I took off. I smelled gas after that too.
What gives guys? I am really concerned about this. This gives me (and my girlfriend) good cause to wonder about moving up to a beemer for our next car. I really don't want to do that. I'd rather get another Z (cause its cheaper and just as sporty).
I remember somebody posting something about Z's exploding on impact. I didn't pay much attention to it cause I thought that the guy was being dramatic. Now I am starting to wonder.
I like the power, speed, and good looks but I want a safe ride. I am not a kid anymore; hence, I’ve got my priorities straight. Any information that you can provide (even old articles on this subject) would be helpful.
Thanks

I wouldn't worry about it. The exploding on impact thing is rediculous. There have been plenty of Zs wrecked and none of them exploded. If it still does it I would just take it into the dealer and have them look it over.
I have never heard of a 350Z exploding on impact. Did you but the car used? If so, maybe it has test or resonated pipes on it. These can smell bad from time to time.
I agree with Escobar about the test pipes. If you bought it used the previous owners may have installed a test pipe on it. This type of add on is notorious for allowing gases and CO to leak in the cabin. If not you might just want to check the exhaust system for leaks elsewhere.
