Default Magnetic oil plug

Thoughts on this product. Is it worth the $20? Thinking of buying one for my ZR and Maxima.

http://www.passwordjdm.com/product.a...For=&PT_ID=375
Introducing the Password:JDM Magnetic Oil Drain Plug. This magnetic oil drain plug will extend the life of your engine. It helps keep the excess metal particles that are created from normal engine wear from floating freely in your engine oil, and designed to attract and hold the metal particles to help prevent them from causing excess wear and reducing the engine's life. It's easy to install. Simply remove your stock drain plug and install the Password:JDM magnetic oil drain plug. At you next oil change, simply wipe the metal particles off of the magnetic drain plug and reinstall it in your engine. Works every time! Reusable!

For your viewing pleasure, we have laser etched a Password:JDM logo on the head of all of our magnetic oil drain plugs! This version of our magnetic drain plug will fit all Nissan vehicles.

I went ahead and purchased (2) of them. I'll let you know how they work after my oil changes.

I had a '92 hardbody and it had a magnetic plug in the tranny. When I changed the transmission grease it was totally covered with particles of steel/iron. However, the fluid still looked like metalflake because of the brass of the syncros all in it. This was at 100k and drove it through 260k and all was fine when I sold it.

Just changed the oil in my Maxima yesterday, the plug fits. Now I have to wait 6 months, when I change the oil again to see what it picks up. Very nice magnet, it stuck to the drain pan as I was trying to screw it in, lol!

Very cool, I think might pick one of those up for my Z and max too

When I changed my diff fluid today, there was sludge on the magnetic drain bolt! Id be interested to see what the oil plug picks up.

When should you change your diff. fluid, miles, ect?? Easy change? DIY instructions? Where did you get the magnetic diff. plug?

It was relatively easy, just make sure you have the right tools and a fluid transfer pump. Here are a couple of threads that I used:

https://my350z.com/forum/engine-drivetrain-and-forced-induction-diy/131098-changing-the-differential-transmission-oil.html

https://my350z.com/forum/showthread....threadid=26555

The stock diff plug is magnetic. I know everyone probably recommends something different, but I just changed mine for the first time at 16,000 miles. I used Mobil 1 synthetic 75w90 for the diff and Nissan 75w85 MTF for the tranny.

Took my wifes Maxima in for a free oil change and when I went to pick it up they said the magnetic plug broke in two pieces as they were tightening it.

Will post pics when I can get my camera wire.

Just installed the other plug in my ZR, will post results on my next oil change.

many shops would deliberately overtighten just to make sure you wouldn't be able to loosen it with regular hand tools changing your own oil. Always do your own oil change from day one.

Yep, they used the same washer and over tightened. I always do my own, but in the process of moving and this was convenient, well kind of!

That sucks zand. I hate how careless shops are with their power tools sometimes.

On a side note, I'm not sure if the oil pan really needs a magnet, I mean it DOES have a filter to catch big particles.

The differential is another story (no filter), I just changed the diff fluid and the plug was covered in iron/steel shavings. My transmission had very clean fluid come out (only 11k miles on my Z though) and no shavings of any sort (but the trans does not have a magnetic plug).

Had the one that was for my Maxima.

Just called JDM today and they would not send me a new one. They said they experimented with a new drain plug and it took 60lb feet on a torque wrench to break the plug so they said it was negilence on my part.

Good news is the oil place is refunding me $25 back to get a new plug. Bad news is they are out of stock at least for another month. No biggie though.

Just beware when tightening these, they only need 20-30 ft lbs to tighten them. They also said you have to use a crush washer with each oil change which the oil change shop did not do either!

I just changed my ZR's oil yesterday and there was only one minor spec of shaving on the magnet.

Default Sigh

I detailed the wifes car for the first since leaving Colorado and I noticed a nice dent in the rear bumper.

When I was getting the oil changed, I and another customer noticed when the sales guy pulled my car back he came really close to a truck. It was sunny that day and I didn't notice it until 2 weeks later when I was detailing it. No paint transfer just a 1X3" dent that you can only see at an angle and it has spider webbing (cracking around it).

Man I'm pissed and theres nothing I can do about it!

I guess thats what I get for getting a free oil change,
