Default So Is Toe-In the Answer?

Is it the consensus now that the cause of the tire feathering is excessive toe in on some cars? Should all new Z owners immediately have the toe in checked to prevent tire wear? All the threads seem to indicate this, but is it conclusive at this point.

Thanks in advance for your views and for the people who have been trying to resolve the issue.

steve-

I just had my tires replaced today along with a realignment.

The service tech spoke with Nissan Tech about the issue. Prior to adjustment, the measurements were -0.10deg L 0.15deg R After the adjustment, they were 0.05deg L 0.00deg R

My Service Advisor said that Nissan updated their Toe In specs. 0.00deg min 0.06deg max.

Based on my numbers, my Toe In on the Right suggests that it should not have been feathered, at least that seems logical to me. But it was. My SA told Nissan Tech the same thing. Their response was that this solution of replacing tires and re-aligning fixed the issue on all the other cases. I really don't think Nissan has had time to know if this works. I guess we'll see in a couple of thousand miles.

You may want to have the dealership do the measurements and see where your settings are. If they are out of spec, you can have that fixed and see if you don't get the feathering.

Articfury,
After re-reading your post, you said that the right toe-in measurement had been .15deg and then said that this should not have caused feathering. If the max should be .06deg, then this .15 would have been .09deg above the max, which would seem to be a problem. So maybe that did cause your feathering.

I am sorry. I picked the wrong side. The left side was -.10, or toe out, and still had the feathering.

Hope that clarifies things.

I have 5700 miles and mild-moderate feathering. I took it into a dealership last saturday, and they told me it was spot on with factory specs. Wheter or not they have the "new" specs I don't know... the dealer thinks it's a camber issue, which can only be fixed using new parts.... :-(

Question

So, is it safe to say that the new cars coming from the factory should be OK at this point?

I wouldn't say that. It could be, as I think VandyZ or somebody else around here suggested, a problem with the suspension changing after being chained down for shipping on boat/rail/truck.
