Grinding into 3rd ONLY...Why?

Grinding into 3rd ONLY...Why?
OK, I bought my 03 redline enthusiast a little over a month ago. I had no shifting problems until the last week. Now when I shift into 3rd with the RPMs up or make a fast shift from 2nd I get a terrible grinding noise. If I engauge the clutch and wait a second or so and/or let the RPMs drop then it doesn't grind. I can't drive it aggressive now because I don't want to grind up the tranny. Could it be a clutch adjustment issue? How do I adjust the clutch? It only does this from 2nd to 3rd, no other gears.

Ok, I read this about the powertrain warranty. What does the "limited" part mean with the powertrain? I asume we're talking about the engine only here?

Every Nissan is backed by a 36-month/36,000-mile limited vehicle coverage and a 5-year/60,000-mile limited powertrain coverage. (For complete information, see your Nissan dealer and read the actual limited warranty.) For extra protection, you can also add Security+Plus®, the only extended service agreement approved by Nissan.

Tranny warrenty
not trying to hyjack a thread, but I think it still somewhat applies.. does axel clicking apply under the powertrain warrenty... bumper to bumper has expired... I went in to have it checked out (knowing there is a TSB for it) and I was told it was not covered... does anyone have any experiance with this? Thanks

Just cause it's grinding doesn't mean it has to be the synchros's. It could be multiple issues. Your best bet would be just take your Z to the dealer and have them check it out.

i get that in 5th all the time, unless I match the RPMs...its my second tranny, and i have 53k on my car, so obviously no warranty.... Ive heard theres a TSB for this issue? Is it true? Can I still take it to a dealer and fix it for free? If not, how much is it gonna be to rebuild or replace the tranny?

I thought the powertrain warranty was 5years/50,000 miles. Unless you magically have a different warranty the transmission synchros are covered. And this is definetly a synchro issue. o3/04 transmissions are ****. the only transmission without the synchro problem is the 009 series.

I get that shifting down from 2nd to 1st. I'm an original owner of an 03'. My dealership said to just hold out, if I can, until I near the max on the warrantee. It is 5years or 50k miles, whatever comes 1st. It is a know issue in the 03' Z's. However, they just give you another of the SAME tranny, NOT a 'new and improved' one. So you're likely to end up with the same problem - but that tranny too is warranteed for same 5yr/50k. Least that's what they told me. I'm at 4 years next month and 43k miles.
GOOD LUCK!
