Default Do i need a tranny replacement?

Pretty often, when i shift into 3rd, i'll hear the dreaded "ggarrrr" or whatever you wanna calll it. This happens more often If i'm not really paying attention to shifting, but it never happens with other gears. I also noticed that the 3rd can be shifted to neutral and back without the clutch being down. This is impossible with the other gears. WTF is up with it? The car has 52k km on it and its over 3 years. I still have warranty, right?

Welcome to the 3rd gear grind club. Best thing you can do is keep your tranny fluid fresh with synthetic fluids to minimize the grind. I only grind into 3rd if the the RPMs are 6K+ and my Z only has 32K on it. It sucks, I know.

The hell? Shouldn't I just get it replaced under warranty?

do you have an aftermarket clutch or flywheel installed? if not, then yes i would take it down to the dealership to have it fixed under warranty.

The only reason you wouldn't take it in to the dealer is if you were not capable of reproducing the problem on a test drive.

Don't let them BS you and tell you they can't reproduce it, if they do then insist you have to drive.
