Default 6th into 5th gear grind

Anyone else develop a downshift grind? Mine grinds bad from 6th to 5th 90% of the time. 67K miles on an 03 touring 6speed. I do have the 100K warrenty, looking into taking it in.

^^^^^^^ Agreed.... Same thing happened to me when my tranny went bad. Just take it in to a dealer and have a new one put in. You might want to consider puting some money out for the new 06 tanny since your getting a new one.

I am having this probelm and the dealship confirmed this. Now to see how they go about fixing mine at 47k and that I changed my tranny/diff fluids out.

Almost everybody has the 3rd grear grind. I wonder why mine decided to dump on the 6/5 downshift?

Is there a VIN# series that has this problem? My car is grinding into 3rd and 5th. I am the second owner of this car, so I do not know if it is a problem that has been dealt with before.

Yeah, mine grinds as well (03 base).. like you, ONLY on downshift from 6th to 5th. Instead of paying for a new tranny, I'm just double clutching before switching. I haven't had problem since.

But I don't know the long term effect of doing this? What do you guys think?

All 03's manuals need replaced. Synchronizers are bad. There is like a 300 page forum page here somewhere. Check into it.

Car is at Dealership today for eval. They say $50 deductable if it's covered under 100K drive train warrenty. $2000+ if not. They don't know if it's covered yet. I'll know more this afternoon.

Take it in. They'll have to order a new tranny.

I'm young (18)...I'll try to get it warrantied, if they don't blame it on me "abusing" the car

I doubt you'll have a problem. It's a known weakness in the car and your still under warrenty. As long as you've not altered the drive trane, you should be fine.

That's discrimination(ageism). How are you to know someones driving habits by there age. That's about as ignorant as Kramer. Demand that they cover it under warranty or tell them you'll contact NNA.

Ok then. I'm putting my Z back to stock just so they won't blame it on the plenum spacer or the intake.
