There will be conflicting answers here, but I was puttin motors together before the silicons came out and all there was, was that brown stinkin stuff that was called Dope or something like that. Then they came out with silicon and they revolutionized sealing--Permatex Blue,Grey,Copper etc. Then came the Ultras from Permatex -- Ultra Blue,Ultra Grey etc. It made the standard silicon obsolete.
Ultra Gray will work great,,,,, BUT I have been using a product from International ( Trucks ) That is AWESOME for 5 yrs now. Its a silicon, but much better than the Ultras. They use it on there diesels instead of gaskets.

T-442
RTV Silicon Rubber <<<<<< At your International Truck Dealer
1 830 858 C1

Its good from -65 to 400 degrees and impervious to hot lubes of all kinds, It drys to less elasticity than ultra and seals like a MF.

Careful though, I wiped some on my belly one day and when I pulled it off it took the skin with it and left a dime size scar. It doesnt hurt to apply with ur finger though unless u got girly hands.

The absolute best? HONDA-BOND. Also very expensive. I think it's $10 a tube.

I doubt it ---But if u use the over the counter stuff make sure it is Permatex and make sure it is ULTRA grey. And make sure ur surfaces are TOTALLY free of oil---Wipe them down with laquer thinner or something. Dont add oil right away, wait a couple hours at least for it to set

I used black rtv sealant. Really great stuff and I used it on my oil pan and oil drain bulk head (messed up the whole) on my old 2g eclipse turbo kit.

Blacks fine as is copper and grey so long as they are Permatex brand and the later "Ultra" grade.
