I've had a problem with my starting system. For some reason the car thinks the wrong key is being used so it doesn't start. The computer keeps losing memory and thinks the car is being stolen. 1st time the dealership reprogrammed my keys. 2nd time they replaced the computer. Now on the 3rd try they are finally giving me a new key. I was told that if it happens again to call them and they'll come tow the car. Doesn't sound like fun but I don't want to get stuck somewhere with no starting car.

My Z has been 100% truoble free up until the other day, when I went to fuel up and pressed the fuel button and the door did not open. I had to do this 3 times and finnally it poped open.
When I got home I poped the door again, cleaned around it, applied some silicone grease to the tension spring and the selonoid plunger. There that should be good for another year or so. Other than that Zero problems. 8000 + miles.

My car has had: bad circuit board. Speedometer and tach stopped working b/c of this. Fixed. Transmission that won't shift into gear consistently (bad synchros?) but Nissan dealership won't fix it. It has the rear axle clicking associated with the TSB for part replacement but the tech line refused to do it, lubed the splines instead. Driver side window motor broke, was replaced. Rear window wiper motor burned up, had to be replaced. Gear whine at all RPM's and speeds now. Transmission rattle when pushing the clutch in when no throttle is on (and I mean LOUD... can be heard over radio at its loudest). Tire issues of course, and vibration associated. I have spent more time in the shop with this car than I did in the entire time I owned the 95 cutlass supreme that had 136000+ mi on it that I owned before it. Do NOT by a Z! It is the biggest mistake you will make... unless you have plenty of time to go in and fight with dealers...

When I turn on my heater on "High Heat" and turn the selector to vent, I smell a sort of melting plastic smell coming from the drivers side, vent on the door. It does not smell like that from any other vent on the dash or the passenger door vent. I opened the door and the smell continues from within the area that connectes to the door.

When I turn the heat down, the smell almost goes away, which leads me to believe there might be something in the vent that leads to the door vent that overheats and smells when the temp is on "high".

I have an 04' Roadster "Touring" model.

Anyone else out there ever experience something like this???
I have the same smell, but I think it might be coming from the engine bay area into the vents. I smelled the fenderwells on driver's & passenger's side...it appears to only be on the driver's side. I then popped the hood and lifted up the cover for the brake master cylinder. It smells electric almost, but I wouldn't know? Then people mentioned burning clutches, but I don't think that's it and it's coming from the wrong area of the car. I could smell it in the car, and then when I rolled down the window at the drive thru I could smell it even more. Someone also mentioned an oil leak on the driver's side of their motor. So the possibilities are endless. Best case scenario, I thought it was the tires. But the back tires don't smell anything like it. Exhaust leak? Heck, I don't know...I think it needs to go back to the dealership.

I have a VDC button on the lower driver's side of my dash, but I still haven't found the Traction Control button (even though they reference it in the owner's manual).

My latest issue: Apparently we have 2 fuel sending units in the car... one behind the driver seat where the bose sub would be and one on the fuel pump in the gas tank itself. If you feel like you're not getting good gas mileage any longer or if the fuel gauge is not reading full when you fill up gas you may have this problem. Nissan recommends that both sending units be changed since there really isn't a way to test them. I only had 1 changed since they couldn't get to my other one. They changed my fuel pump that has the 1 unit and it seemed to have worked out fine. they couldn't get to the other unit since my amps are mounted in there and they didn't want to risk messing up my stereo system.

Now if I can just get my key problem to go away!!!

That manual makes refference to both buttons cause it is a generic manual. They give the same one to the Base owners even though they don't have either.
