STOCK SHIFTER

My stock shifter has offically broke as of this last friday. On my way out of downtown from the clubs, noticed that the shifter was floating around when swicthing gears. The shifter feels like it's basically been turned into a universal joint that rotates slightly (bad). Hard to shift into 5th/6th without going into 3rd/4th, which I did twice on the freeway. Not a fun way to engine brake. I can put the car into 6th gear, and the shifter falls back to the neutral position in which case it can freely swivels side to side across the gears sets even though the car IS in gear. Pretty awkward, and don't know how the heck it broke, but am taking it to the dealer tomarrow to get it looked at.

I remember once, when I was out drinking one night and picked up a good looking girl and couldn't get my shifter to work right.

It wasn't that hard to go into reverse actually, better than going like 80mph, then accidentally downshifting into 4th when you thought it was 6th. Painful soundig engine breaking . But I've been sitting around for a week now driving a damn rental as the shifter assembly (which was also broken) is in back order. I'm now paying for my rental out of my pocket and not happy, damn part needs to come in so I can get my damn car running!

I know the feeling. I was trying to shift 4th to 5th under hard acceleration but I went into 3rd instead. I about wrecked my car on the freeway.

No shifter problems - just poor technique!

Well, I'm at 24000 miles.... Logging in the miles. I had the feathering, switched the front tires to Michelin Pilot Sports... noticeable difference. Back tires had to be replaced at 24000 (just yesterday) due to normal wear. Pleased with the front tire wearing... no rotation yet and I have 10K on the front tires. I have the window streaks, but I don't care about that. Just don't roll down your window if you are that **** . Just kidding. I don't like the speakers in the doors... they are cheap. I have blown one I think... normal rattles, mainly the pass. seatbelt if it's not clipped. This car is awesome, just expensive in the tire category. Normal chipping on the front of the car due to rocks, etc... I wish that Nissan would do like the Infiniti and put the clear coat bra on the front and side mirrors as standard. We can all wish right? Next month will be a year... I love my car.

Your the second person to mention rotating the tires on the Z. The front and back are different sizes; how are they rotated?

I have a 03 Touring with 8400 miles on it and so far I haven't noticed the tire feathering.
My biggest problem is the noise coming from the front wheels, sounds like bad bearings or something, especially under braking. Has anyone had this problem? I'm wondering how it can be fixed.
Also is the A/C supposed to be on all the time? Regardless of the temp I set the A/C light is always on.
I can deal with the ghost passenger messing with the radio and licking the windows if only the noise was fixed.
Thank you for any help

yeah I did too. Although I haven't had any serious problems yet I'm sure they're coming and without the warranty I would hate the car and lose sleep over it.

That noise you are hearing that you think is bad bearings under braking is tire feathering. It will only get worse.

OKAY

I don't own a Z but my dad used to own the 160 or was it the 180.. he just forgot because it was around 15 years ago.

and first of all.. let me tell you this

YOU DO NOT WANT TO BUY A 160 BACK THEN

it had soo much problems, according to my dad, it seems as if it had more problems than the 350z.

it should have been lemoned, but my dad was extremely stupid and kept going back to Nissan or a repair place to fix the problems.

He finally just sold it back to Nissan, he promised that he would NEVER buy a nissan again.. haha

moral of the story

nissan just has too many problemz.. haha

but i still gotta love this car

(and the 240z and 300's seem pretty nice too )

What are you talking about??? A "160" Z??? I've owned 5 Z's and they are one of the most trouble free cars I've ever owned, and I've had Mercedes, Porsche, Acura,Toyota,Dodge, Chevy, Ford. My 350Z is great and Nissan has stood behind it and has made the buying and ownership experience a great one. By the way are you even old enough to drive a car?

wtf does a 160Z have to do with today's 350Z?

o.. it waz the 180sx i think

bah

my dad forgot.. it's been too many years

but my dad's car was a lemon... i'm not saying anyone's else is

but you do know that a few people have lemoneed their z's because of the feathering, but in addition to that, there's also other problems such as the tyranny, drifting to the right under 7 seconds, crappy paint job, etc.
