- cluch noise when neutral
mechanic compared with other 350Z, same noise, he concluded as normal, no fix. [/B][/QUOTE]

I had the same clutch noise when in neutral, just had my transmission and clutch replaced by Nissan three days ago and mysteriously the clutch noise went away. If its the same noise that I experienced it sounded like a loud rattling when in neutral. I have 17k miles on my Z and 3rd gear started grinding about 3 weeks ago. Took it into the shop, they replaced it, no questions asked. So I would probably say that you are going to experience the grinding in your gears sometime soon and when you do, take it right into the shop and say "my transmissions bad". They wont even question it.

I have 7K miles on my Z, I'm not concerned since it came with a 5 year 60K miles drivetrain warranty. Mine is fine so far.

Well the new problem and one that I seem to be the only one with is...

@ 3500 miles my vq ate atleast 2 whole quarts of oil. There are no leaks anywhere. The vq itself has 47k miles on it now. But I noticed this because of my thread regarding oil pressure where I first noticed an immediate problem.

I can't tell if the engine is just eat a lot of oil, or if it's something else. The engine seems to respond just fine and go about merrily, but this is the first time I've had something like this happen so it may be a little to early to see what up. Another memeber mentioned that motors have been being replaced for this problem which is not what I wanted to hear.

I'm going to need to start tracking my oil consumption at each oil change and see if there's a pattern, or if it was just some kind of odd one-time-occurance. I ran pretty hard during the 3500 miles, but I've also been running hard since I finished my engine break-in. Either way... there may be a new problem in the future for the vq... dunno yet

Take it to the dealer and have them note the problem, they will track it. I would do this now since you are 12K miles from the end of your warranty. I would tell the dealer you noticed the loss of 2 quarts in 1000 miles, so they don't blow you off with 1 qt. every 1500 miles is normal. You want them to track this useage and resolve the problem. By the way how often do you check your oil?

Hard to address noises over the internet. Unless you can post the sound. What is long blow of valve sound? I would suggest you take it to the dealer and have them check it out. If they say it is normal have them take you for a test drive in another new Z that they have on the lot and show you the same sound. Since they are the ones that will have to deal with it I would start with them.

MY PROBLEMS

1. Grease streaks both windows (don't feel comfortable letting them remove door panel and stuff)

2. Tire feathering (replaced twice-waiting for my second replacement tires-national backorder!) every 5-7K miles

3. Bose stereo-Bass (amplifier replaced)

4. DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW AUTO-UP MALFUNCTION (WILL GO ALL THE WAY UP AND THEN GO A 1/3 OF THE WAY BACK DOWN...MOST OF THE TIME )

5. Rattling noise in interior (Passenger airbag-metallic tinging)

6. Excessively bouncy ride on concrete smooth roads (ANYONE KNOW OF THE CHEAPEST, BUT RELIABLE, SUSPENSION MOD TO ELIMINATE THIS?)

7. AC sometimes does not work (loud noise (compressor?) when turned on at idle)

8. Had tranny replaced after 2nd-3rd gear grinding

9. Excessively soft paint/clear coat

10. Side plastic molding on driver's seat broken (will be replaced soon)

I'm kinda getting depressed right now...i'm gonna stop making my list.

had a weird electrical malfunction. When starting I hadn't depressed the clutch far enough, as i depressed it further the starter engaged and at the same time i slightly let off the clutch and the main fuse (120amp) blew. I took the entire fuse block to the nissan dealer and he accused me of trying to jump the battery wrong and that's what blew the fuse. I explained what I did and stated "why would i make up such a story" Has anyone else experienced such a problem. I am curious to know if there is a hidden problem with the electrical starting system. Thanks

Could be a valve tap. Keep checking your oil. What oil viscosity do you use? Brand too? Dave

I just had the oil changed at the dealer, I had the ticking sound before the oil change then I made an appointment for later that week for tranny and engine tick. They replaced the tranny with Nismo but said the ticking was normal (I doubt that it's normal I hang with a whole bunch of Z's and I do not hear the sound from their Z's) Anyways when I first changed the oil I used the Mixed Syn and regular it was one of those 10 Min oil change shops ( had no choice reached 3k) It was Valvoline, do not remember the viscosity. Now it has Castrol synthetic 10/40 or 10/30 not sure.

Sorry, didn't mean to scare you. it's not a big thing, and probobly not the sound anyway. In the old days , sometimes you could here a ticking sound from the valves. No biggie. Also, Living in FL, (me too),I tend to use a heavier viscosity oil, like 50 weight. Just better lubrication, especially in our hot weather. and with a performance motor. GL to you. Z Ya! *PS/ALT side tensior pulley replaced (fell off during driving)
-wasnt fun to loose power steering while taking a sharp corner at 60mph when it happened
*Tranny replaced for grinding (1st-2nd, into 6th when cold)
*Shifter assembly replaced (busted the shifter while shifting spiritedly)
*Left quarter axle replaced
*AC stopped working (not engaging)
*Clutch assembly replaced
(Now I have a CRACKED borla true dual exhaust)

I was hands off about the oil until I lost so much, oddly I have not been noticing any consumption since... weird. Been checking the oil levels.

I also had my RPM tach get "stuck" at around 3k rpms twice before. It would start working after a while (2-5 minutes) was odd but hasn't done it since. Been about 2 months since it happened.
