Default Oil filter: Need copper washer or no?

I went to Auto zone today, they had mobil 1 oil fiters ($10.99) but it didn't come with a copper washer. The guy said you didn't need it. I was under the impression that you would have to change that everytime you did an oil change. Is it necessary? Can I reuse that?

What washer are you talking about?

Best bet is to stop by the Nissan parts and pick up some crush washers, wouldn't hurt.

I'm pretty sure he's talking about the crush washer.

You're supposed to replace them every time but I've seen that even the dealers are reusing them when doing oil changes.

Dealers don't apply...lol. They don't give a **** about your car! I think I'm just going to wait a few days and go get the part and to do it right.

Unless you're tightening the bolt crazy tight you can re-use a crush washer 3-5 times before you should replace it.

I would get a new copper crush washer. They are dirt cheap, If you are using $10 oil filters, 66cents for a washer should be next to nothing.
