Default Power Steering Fluid Flush??

Tried searching the threads, but just wanted a quick answer as to when this Power Steering Fluid Flush is recommended for our cars. I have an 03 Touring 6spd with 42K miles.

Remember a service tech telling me I should get that done sometime soon cause he could smell it from my car. But I take whatever they say with a grain of salt.

So If anybody could give me a rough estimate as to when I should get this done or when it is normally done, that would be much appreciated. Currently, no problems from steering column/turning, so just wondering if I should get this done or not next time I bring my car in for service???

No ---If ur hung up on it, just drain and clean the resivour and feed hose and add fresh fluid. Its very seldom that a PS Flush, Trans Flush, Radiator Flush, Windshield Washer Flush, Intestinal Flush etc. is any more than a Shop/Dealership scare tactic to make easy profits.

NOW !!!! A Brake/Clutch Fluid Flush is a good idea and a PS Flush is a good idea if u drive hard at the track.

And an Intestinal Flush is good for food poisoning.

another red flag if they told you to replace/flush the 03 air with new 07 air from your tires.

i have an 03 and i track mine fairly often. i've taken to to a shop with a "BG" (or something like that) machine that does a full flush on the powerstreering system at 45k (for the first time). many oil change places have this machine and it's a quick service.

it was about 85 dollars. i wanted the full flush over "drain and fill".

My point was that its not neccessary and I hate it when the Dealers/Shops come up with this Hype stuff with huge profits and little or no good for the customer.

BTW ---- I own a shop

Is it hype when the owner's manual suggests it in the service intervals?

I'm a tire shop salesman and I'd really like to know if I've been selling bogus ****, you seem pretty earnest about it.

A quick look through the Nissan Factory Manual showed no mention of a flush, but I may have missed it.So many "recommendations" now days are perpetrated by sources that have something to gain. Many times, for example, the "advice" in a manual is recieved from,in this case, oil manufacturers, shop owners and parts manufacturers that have something to gain.

Its really no different than a cook book saying u MUST use Uncle Bens Rice (Written by the company that makes UBR) or the magic, over night revelation, oil be changed every 3000 miles rather than every 5000 a few years back (Im sure "recommended" by oil producers) or a drug company insinuating that if ur kid is acting too much like a kid, feed him some Ritalin.
WE, as Shop Owners and the guys that people trust with their cars, have the responsibility to make suggestions based on experience, not what we are "told" to say, in order to increase profits.

If you track the hell out of ur car every weekend---fine, But if ur the average guy, forget the 85.00 PS Flush.
