i have a 06 with 5000 miles on it and when i turn the car off there is a fast knocking noise that comes from the engine bay.. outside the car there is a weird ticking sound coming from the engine... i have already had the dealership do the oil consumption test and no problems and having them fix problems is like pulling teeth !!!! any suggestions????

 

is the sound dependant on speed? ie. slower at slow speeds and progresses accordingly.

 

don't drive till you get it figured out, this sounds like you may have busted something lose. A compression check would help.

 

the only time i hear it is when i am ideling and when i turn the engine off there is a really fast knocking noise ... u can hear it very clearly and it sounds like something is hitting the engine bay!!!

 

i hear this sound too, when i was quiet place even turn the engine off..

There was a tsb out on fuel damper ticking.. Maybe this is what your talking about..

does anyone have the # too nissan usa customer service, i went to their website and could not find it!! im really sick and tired of getting the runaround with these service depts!! i cant believe they have these fifty something guys working as service advisers when they should be working at a buick dealership!!! if we are having this many problems with our z and if u do a search we are '' I REALLY FEEL SORRY FOR THE NEW GT-R OWNERS WHEN THEY HAVE A SERVICE ISSUE '' and they will!!!!!

so i took it to the dealership and the said my tranny is going out and thats what is making the knocking noise and the sound is traveling up to my engine bay!! i had to take it to 4 different dealership and the fourth one said yeah u have a problem.. my z has only 5000 miles on it and i bought it brand new.. they ordered me a new tranny and now im thinking i cant wait til the engine goes...... ill keep u posted!!!!!!!!!!

 

don't get your hopes too high, they might just be looking for some warrenty work considering the other dealers couldn't find anything.
