no such thing as an in cabin air filter on the Z.

The rest is just inspection (which I doubt they even do anyhow...) i guess if you dont want to get under your car and look yourself and peace of mind is worth $290 to you, then go for it. Total waste of money IMO.

You are basically paying $290 for an oil change.

I get a flyer in the mail every couple of months from Nissan for a free 100pt inspection. Free. I'm still waiting for them to find something that actually needs to be fixed. I guess it helps to know people at the dealership though

If you are confident in your ability to recognise potential problems before there become troublesome, then skip the inspection.

The inspection is like insurance. If it makes you feel secure, then pay the man.

Well the dealer initially quoted me $340+tax for the whole package for a 15K (12month) interval maintenance. But because I bought a 'special package' at time of purchase (free lifetime oil change and loaner car), I got a preferred customer discount and he waived the oil change fee of $29.99. They said I would have to leave the car w/ them the whole day, and labor cost is rated at $85/hr. He said the major tune-ups occur every year- so $340 is not that bad for a little peace of mind. But I heard from another Z owner that you dont really need to take it in for maintenance until it reaches 30K.

So the question is, when is it mandatory to bring it to the dealer for service?

I think 30k and 50k are important. The rest you can take care of yourself.

If you look on the Nissan site at the scheduled maintenances (http://www.nissanusa.com/owning/vehi...chedules.html), the one for 15K miles is pretty minor in what is done. Even if you take the Premier Maintenance route, the only things that are actually replaced at 15K are: Oil and Filter, Lube locks/hinges, Air Filter and Wiper blades. Everything else is under "inspect", stuff they do for free any other time. It's all a big money maker if you ask me.

i guess i should have said 'highly recommended' instead of 'mandatory'. i know i'm suppose to take it in for the major tuneups... just not sure when that would be. the dealer says i must have the warranty booklet stamped/signed (showing i've taken the car in) at every maintenance interval to uphold my warranty. but he warned me if i skip an interval, or have the work done elsewhere by some independant Joe, that i'm at risk of voiding my warranty.

my car is not even a yr old. so far i'm quite happy with the dealer service and what they charge. so far the cost of getting it serviced is only $200-300. not a bad price for some peace of mind.

There is a smaller manual that comes with the owner's manual. It list all scheduled maintenance intervals.

That'll be $29.99, please send to paypal.

Nope, I had my whole motor replaced under 100% warranty (because of oil consumption). I did ALL of my own oil changes and servicing. The only thing they required of me was to bring in my log book/reciepts that I keep of the oil changes that I do myself. I brought that in and they had no problems with it and replaced my motor free of charge.

You do not have to have any maintenence done by the dealer. If they tell you that you must to uphold the warranty, they are lying to you! You do have to have the proper maintenence done, but you can do it yourself, or by other shops. You just have to have proof that you did it.

Total crap. A warranty is valid so long as you can prove the maintenance was done, done at the correct time and done with the correct materials, meaning a receipt from what you bought. Keeping a log (like I do) is nice too and will come in handy if a dispute arises. I do all my own service and keep a very lenghty record of such.

I agree
my dealer took me for $325 and that excludes the free oil & lube change.
$217.12 for labor, (supposed to charge $95/hour, and the whole "maintenance" took 1 1/4 hours.)$84.56 for parts ( what's a power enhancer for 21.79)
yes new blades , new battery pads and they changed the washer solvent which I had done a month ago.
so should I go for the 30k and pay their charge of $430.00?

lol Dealer = Rip off

I only go there for Oil change cause I am too lazy to do it
myself ummm and I dont have a driveway!!!

The Z is designed to go a long ways before any real major service needs to be done! My Z has 14,500 miles and its an 06....doubt it needs anything from dealer other then oil.

I just had a similar experience and ended up paying ~280$ for 15k.

I knew from one dealership that they recommended to only do an oil change at 15k. Because of other reasons I actually went to a different dealer and did a "15k service", expecting the price of an oil change (my mistake).
After they did it, I was shocked to see the price be 280 instead of ~28 or so...

On the invoice it says that they did a fuel injector service, used some engine cleaning stuff, and labor was around 150 or so... The rest was various fluids, parts, general supplies fee. They reported the % brakes but don't know if they really inspected anything else.
