Angry Burnt clutch...big problem w/ dealer

Has anyone here burnt their clutch yet? I was doing a burn out with my Z and the wheel was spinning and just suddenly stopped and my clutch was out. I took it to the dealer and they said that clutch is not covered under warranty. Now to fix it they said you have to change the flywheel everytime you change the clutch. I did some researching and found out that there are springs on the flywheel not the clutch. That means that you can not resurface the flywheel. The flywheel itself they said costs $1100 plus other parts and labor which ends up to be $2400 (that is ****en ridiculous).

Anyone have any ideas on how to go about this? Is there any way I can get around this with the dealer? I called NISSAN and they said they have to call the dealer. Most likely they are going to say it's how I drove it not a "defect". If this happens would it be better if I upgrade my clutch and lighter flywheel??? If so I'm taking a chance on my warranty being voided cuz if something goes wrong and the cause was the aftermarket clutch and flywheel they will not cover my car anymore.

What should I do????????

I'm having a hard time seeing how doing a burning out causing clutch failure would be covered under warranty. But, who knows. Good luck.

they know when a clutch has been abused, your was. Id bet money you werent burning the tire, probably slipping the clutch(ever seen that transam video?)

they have no liability to fix it for you. and when you kill the clutch like that you do destroy the flywheel. suck it up and dont abuse your car next time.

by the way, one wheel burnouts are gay, if you have the base without LSD you dont do burnouts. thats the one thing that brings all people together at the dragstrip, imports or domestics, we all join together to laugh at the cars burning 1 tire.

As Ares said, the dealership has no obligation to fix a clutch which was abused.. I know it sucks hearing that because it feels unfair, and you are prolly thinking "the clutch is weak!", but you have to be honest with yourself, do you really think the company should be responsible for this mistake?

I suggest you just suck it up, put out the cash, and put this behind you. Fighting the dealer won't help - they follow policy, and won't cave in no matter how big fight you put up. Plus, think of it this way, you can now get yourself a better "racing" clutch and lighter flywheel

The same thing happened to me, and the Nissan dealer said the same thing. Of course I knew the clutch would not be covered under the warranty, but balked at the cost of the flywheel ($1200 bucks! Hell no, homey don't play dat!) But what pissed me off more was the fact that the service rep had the nerve to tell me that I couldn't get a flywheel for cheaper than that.

My advice is just fork out the dough to get an aftermarket flywheel. If you can wait for the time to get it delivered, that would be the better route to go. Right now, I only know of Unorthodox Racing and JUN that make aftermarket flywheels. The Unorthodox Racing flywheel is aluminum and goes for $699 with a three week back order and the JUN flywheel is chromoly and retails for $324 give or take exchange rates and has a 4 week back order. I was going to wait for the JUN flywheel, but pressure from the fiance is making me go with the Unorthodox Racing flywheel.

Clutches are not covered under warranty they are a wear and tear item. Just like brakes. They like ares said you can tell when the clutch has been abused. You will end up most likely paying for the whole boat.

I would just wait and get the aftermarket flywheel if you could. OTherwise, you are going to have to suck it up and get the one from Nissan. Maybe the clutch on this car is the same as some other car? THey might be cheaper if they are aftermarket....

JUN makes a lightened flywheel. Should run you about $425-500.

I think there must be more to that story. clutches will NEVER last forever, no matter how good you are to them, they wear out, just like brakes. they typically can last 100000 miles or more, but they still will wear out. but I think theres a limit where you can cry foul, such as your 400mile car has a burned clutch, somethings wrong. they will look at it, see if it was abused or if something is wrong, and then make a decision.

I think that is BS, how many miles do you have on it. Why do you have replace the flywheel w/ the clutch (never heard that). If my clutch were to go out now w/ 7k miles, I would be pitching a fit w/ nissan, espicially w/ all this tranny BS going on, some people are on their 3rd.

do you know how to drive the car w/ out the clutch?

Nissan hasn't called me back yet but if this doesn't work out my way, which mostly likely won't does anyone know where i can get aftermarket clutch and flywheel for cheaper and better? where i dont have to wait for back orders? I live in CA and someone told me to go to Signal Auto. He said they have warranties for them also. Will this affect my dealer warranty?

BTW both tires were spinnning.

yup, wear items are covered for the first year(12 months for all you math majors or 12,000 miles) , but it does sound like you were driving the crap out of it. Are you SURE it was the clutch and not your tranny?

well the trannies are notorious for going out anyway, so that shouldn't be a problem

notorious? I donno if Id go that far, atleast 200 Zs on this board, Ive seen no more than 5 with problems. Id bet atleast 1 could be chalked up to user error. hardly a unussually high rate of tranny failure.
