Default warranty transmission

hey guys

I hit 40k miles on my 03 and our warranty ends at 30k. But now im getting a pretty consistent grinding from 2nd to 3rd no matter how fast im going. Ive gotten accustomed to going straight from 2nd to 4th but i was wondering would i have to pay for a new transmission if im out of warranty. And if i do how much would it run.

Check your powertrain warranty. What is it?

+3 powertrain warranty is different than the bumper to bumper. Read your owners manual.

Is it as simple as taking it to the stealer and asking for a new transmission? what do you have to prove for them to give you a new one? I feel nothches in my shifts pretty consistently. Sometimes when i go to 5th fast i hear a nasty sound. I want to know how i can identify grinds to build my case when i see the stealer. thanks.

For most of cases, you just have to tell them and if they can reproduce the issue then they should do the replacement.

Here's my experience:

Not that simple. A mechanic will drive the car. Most likely he will annotate

Cannot duplicate

on the job order.

JUST got back from the stealer but their shop was closed. I talked to the sales guys out there smoking their usual ciggarettes and they said they would replace it. so from the post above what can i expect when i take it in? A mechanic has to make the final decision? or will they lean towards my word more? Im not just trying to get a tranny for the heck of it. It really grinds and it feels notchy most of the time.

depends on if you have alot of mods or not. they write it up for grinding then the tech will test drive it and try to duplicate the problem.if so they order a cd009 tranny and that is that.if they feel you have abused it they may not cover it. unless you bought a brand new car, then nissan would prob cover it since they dont want to **** off a new customer.
we had a kid that bought a new sentra ser the 07 one and in less than 2k the tranny was grinding and was shi**y.nissan covered it, but later i found out he cant drive a stick and was racing it.in the end its the tech that determines if it needs a new one.

There is a way to lessen the Cannot Duplicate problem. The service manager drives the car with you in the passenger seat.

I took the tech out for a test drive, he said it was "obvious" that the synchro was out.
Turns out it was 5th gear seized sinchro on the shift rail!

New trans under warranty(also got a new flywheel, clutch & pressure plate! )

"5th gear grind"
they should have an idea as to what you mean.
