Default 2nd gear grind when fast shifting

When I shift from 1st to 2nd gear real fast, the tranny grinds during the shifting. Is this a problem with tranny? I can avoid the grind if I shift little slower, kind of ease in the clutch then shift to 2nd...

All other gears are fine. 2nd to 3rd, 3rd to 4th, and so on..

Does anyone else having the same problem?

shifting into second slowly when the temp is below 50* in the morning is a problem. when the tranny and engine are cold. other than that i do not have any grinding once the car is warmed up. not sure what to do about it yet.

shifting into second is the one and only complaint about my car.... it's horribly inconsistent... sometimes it's fine... sometimes it's an all-out grind... i had it in for servincing once and they said to let the car break in further before they do major surgery. I'm not convinced.

yea, mine is same thing. not consistent. I did however changed to MTL/MT-90 mixature of Redline Tranny Oil about 4-5months ago, but it didn't help that much for me..

guess I'll wait until it gets worst then take it to service dept. to have them look at.

Well said. Second if very inconsistent. No grinds or problems anywhere else.

I have the same exact problem. As someone previously mentioned, I'm going to wait until the break in period is over before I have someone look into it. The shifting is definitely different than my MR2 Spyder was.

How many miles do you have on your car?

I have 5500 and second still grinds occasionally. I also have trouble shifting down to first while slowing down.

I have 450 miles on mine and I noticed it right when I drove off the lot. I assumed (and still do) that it will loosen up with some driving.

Unfortunately, it won't. I have 14k miles now, and it's not getting better. Even with Redline oil.

mine showed up right at 500 miles, and i thought the same thing. although lately it has been more "consistent". but i think that is more just because its starting to get warmer up here in CT.

Before change to Redline tranny oil:

shifting to 2nd gear was notchy and would sometimes grind only when its cold. Once the car warms up there is no problems

After change to Redline:

shifting to 2nd gear is less notchy and does not grind anymore. It has more of a solid feel to it than before. Overall it is a lot smoother after cold startups.

Currently 3700 miles
