Default Engine Noise

Hey hows it going guys...this is my first time posting a new thread on this site, so here it goes...

I changed my oil yesterday and something weird happened, when I started the car, a strange clicking noise started coming from, whats sounds like, deep within the engine. The noise is very noticable when the hood is up or when I am sitting in the car with the windows up and the radio and A/C off; the noise can still be heard when the hood is down, but is very prevelant when I am standing over the engine and the hood is up. There is also strange knocking noise, very faint though, that can be heard from inside the car. So far I have only been able to hear the noises when idle. Unfortunetly i cannot pin point EXACTLY where these noises are coming from, but it sounds like its deep under where the plenum sits.

While I am discussing engine issues, have any of you guys had an issue when you turn the car off; instead of the engine reving down to a halt, it sounds more like it rattles down...i brought my z to the dealer and they said it was normal, but i dont' trust them

So now a little maintenance background! I do all basic maintenance myself. Again I changed the oil yesterday, I change it every 3k miles with 5W-30 Mobil One, with a Mobil One oil filter, I generally put about 5 US quarts of oil (give or take a little bit) When idle the oil pressure gauge reads 30PSI and is very responsive during driving, sitting about 60PSI normally and will increase depending on acceleration. I also took it for a drive after I noticed the noise to see if it went away and how the oil pressure responded and everything seems to be normal; no noise (besides the loud as s@#t stock 03 tranny) and the oil pressure seems to be normal.

... before any of you flame me or I get labelled as a newb, I did search this site very thoroughly (a little more than 3 hours) and I couldn't find an exact match to my problem...there were somethings that were close though I have also consulted with some of my mechanically inclined friends and they have given me some suggestions, but I want to hear what you guys have to say about my plight.

Hopefully I provided you guys with all the info you'll need and thanks in advance for your help!

what's the mileage?
Have you tried using regular dino oil? Mobile one is kind of thin.
some Z's throwout bearing is known to rattle at idle.

Mileage: 40300

Never thought about conventional motor oil for this car, because it was sounding fine up until a couple days ago (with respect to the clicking noise); the rattling sound started a couple of weeks ago.

Thanks for the feedback

the slight ticking sound may be your altenator giving way? Check your belts also, maybe one of them is ate up from age. The whole rattle thing when shutting the engine off is kinda unique.... maybe a lose exhaust pipe that flutters when the car is whinding down. It's hard to diagnose things over the internet, but that gives you somewhere new to look. Let us know if you find anything.

I have the rattle when I turn the car off too sometimes. It's the throwout bearing. It's normal.

WOW....Sounds like the same thing that just started happening to me. Clicking noise from within the engine. When I step on the accelerator the clicking increases. Oil pressure seems normal. Almost don't want to drive until I can get it to the dealer.

Sounds like the injectors. Mine does the same. Do a search for injector noise and see if this matches your problem. The other guy said it was from "deep inside the engine" which doesn't sound like injectors.
