Default RPM malfunction

what could be the problem when my RPM gauge does not work and is dead for a moment then goes back to normal after a few minutes of driving?

This is a known problem with roadsters and I assume yu have a roadster. It seems to happen to me when the sun is hitting the tach and it just stops. Returns to nl when it cools off.

Do you have a aftermarket radio/nav that taps into the rpm signal wire?

I have figured it out... Ive even spoke with one of the Nissan service techs about it. They had never heard about it and kind of just shrugged off the thought.

I have figured out that the tach only sticks when it is hit by direct sunlight (window rolled down, or top down) It does not only affect roadsters. Its happend to me a few times when the sun was behind my car and the middle of the tach (where the needle connects to) is being hit with direct sun light. This happend to me last month so I even grabbed my cell phone and recorded it. I recorded going different speeds on the digital display and the needle sticking at 2,000rpm. -- I have also noticed that when I put my hand over the tach and removing the direct sunlight, it takes about 4-5 seconds for the tach to become un-stuck.

So, Its a known thing, rarly happens... but no one has ever been able to prove it. I have video of it on my cell if people really want me to post it up.

Nissan techs are dumber than door nails, you have a better chance of seeing god than to get helpful answer from them.

i dont have any after market wiring or head unit...i had the car for about a year and it happened to me a couple times randomly...the sun can play a role because i am top down daily...but still there has to be a more specific reason...oh well i just hope it doesent go permanently dead...then i will be pissed...=P
