Default * Bad knocking noise * Please help a newbie *

Hi All,
After purchasing a 350Z nearly 3 months ago, im having a problem with a loud clunking noise. Doesnt matter what speed im doing, and it is worse when you go over a cobbled road. It is a very loud clunking noise and if you apply the brakes lightly, it doesnt make a difference, but if you apply the brakes hard, the noise dissapears. I have taken it to 3 Nissan dealers and none can help me. 2 of them suggested it could be the Power steering rack, but they aint certain. I aint replacing a £995 part if it doesnt cure the problem. A couple of other mechanics think its something to do with the brakes, as it dissapears when you brake hard, but thats maybe because you take the pressure off the steering rack.

Please help as it is soooo annoying. Thanks alot.

Gav.

Gav is your Z still under warranty?? If it is, get as many written assessments as you can, and go back and hit them with that.

I think I have a similar problem but the tech's said it was my shocks... Mine is bad over any kind of bumps or bumpy roads. It does not, however, stop under hard braking. I hope you can find out what your problem is. I will search and report back.

did you buy the Z used? what year model Z? Has the suspension been modified in any way or form like being lowered an inch or so? These questions need to be addressed first. The brakes been serviced lately?

Default Help *****

Thanks For The Interest Guys. Its Not Under Warranty And I Bought It Private. The Suspension Hasnt Been Modded That I Know Of Either. Just Found Out That When You "wiggle" The Wheel Left To Right Slightly, You Hear The Same Noise. Im Totally Stumped. Dunno What To Do.

No update here. Check your wheels for play by jacking up the front end and trying to wiggle the wheels. Also check your upper control arm for unusual play. Check sway bars and anything else you can see.

Still haven't found out mine yet, looking for some quality struts.
