Default Overheating??

Is overheating your car for short periods of time very bad for the engine? I was trying to bleed the air out of the coolant and ended up having to drive the car ovheated for a couple of minutes 3 or 4 times. I also heard it is bad to let the car idle for a long time which i was also doing.. I am concerned because i am running a 75 shot of nitrous..

it all depends how much it overheats but you should be ok...but 4mins of driving overheated is A LOT i mean it is long time. i am surprised you didnt pull over to let it cool. it may be fine for now but head gasket may have had a lot of life taken out of it due to extra expansion and contraction of head/blcok it wasn't designed for.letting car idle long time is not that serious...how long are we talking about here...10 mins or an hour and why are you letting it do it if you dont mind me asking?

i was trying to burp the coolant.. i let it idle for like 20 and 30 minutes..i had to drive the car to the mechanic to let them take car of it..I didnt think flushing the coolant was going to be that much of a PITA.. I could not get the air out of my coolant system.. so everytime i tried to burp it i went to drive it to see if anything happened so teh car would overheat and i would drive it back.

pour coolant into the bleeder screw, not that hard to burp the system.

Are you serious, what do you think happens to your oil when you overheat?
Most if not all of the protection in that oil is gone, its like putting 8000 miles on it.

no it does not . above statement is wrong. open the bleeder screw and pour coolant slowly in to the radiator until it starts to come out of the bleeder screw. run the car till thermostat opens. shut it off and let it sit for a little. then repeat first step. are you using a spill free coolant funnel that goes on the rad fill neck? if not this may be why you are having so much trouble it simplifies everything quite a bit.

dont drive the car untill you get heat on lowest setting. one way to know there are no air pockets.
