Default At the dealer ship again

I have an 03 touring and it does have a lot of miles on it. 117,000. I just had a new clutch and tranmission put in at 114,000. My car was smelling burnt and I discovered it was my clutch. I know that I get I on my car a little but this is crazy. Could it be just a defect? I don't know anything about clutches. Just wondering. Thanks

i read a thread about how there is wax to protect the clutch before installation. It said that it burns off in the few hundred or so, maybe a thousand. Might want to confirm with the dealership though

A new clutch will smell for about the first 3-400 miles. The proper thing to do is to drive, heat up the clutch, then let it cool. Do this at least 4-5 times with out doing any really hard starts.

Clutch material is similar to brake pad material and needs to gas when new. The clutch smells like burned fish.

Well I'm pushing almost four thousand miles on the clutch since I got it. That smell should be gone by now? Right. The dealer called me back today and they want to charge me 350.00 just to look at it. They said that if it not my fault then it will be free, but this is a dealer we are talking about. I know that they will say that is my fault. I called the nissan c.a. department and I'm supposed to get a call tomorrow. Sould I pick it up and just drive it some more?

Why would Nissan be involved with a 114k vehicle after the legal life [100k], your dispute is with dealer who gives a 12k/12 month warranty on their work.

because this is about customer satisfaction and like any other manufacturer Nissan wants you to buy more cars from them. Dealership is more or less a franchise. If it has poor CSI scores and sales they can choose to drop them and/or request mandatory management change. Thats how Infiniti is, even though they take better care of their customers because its a luxury car its still same company with same priorities.

I think the dealer is being fair. At least they are giving you the benefit of doubt, by waiting to judge whose fault it is once they look at the clutch first hand. If I were you, I would ask to watch as the technician removes the clutch so you could instantly hear his opinion. This way the service writer or manager won't have time to make up any bs as to why it's your fault.
