Question Speed Wobble? *HELP*

Okay, I'm not sure what is going on, but ever since I owned the car, (bought it used) I have had this speed vibration or wobble in the steering wheel. Its like when I hit 85+ MPH my steering wheel vibrates for a few seconds then stops, then does it again. Its like as soon as I hit 85 I get like a harmonic vibration or something, and ever second or so it goes away and comes back. Its not intermittent, its ALWAYS there its just got a 1 to 2 second pattern, On then off, on then off. Its annoying.

Does anyone know what might be causing this? The owner of the car before me put volk rims on it, and the only thing I can think of is that maybe they need balancing? Or maybe an alignment?

alignment will pull your steering to one direction or the other. The vibration would be caused by a rim off balance.

If it happens to be none of that, check your tires for uneven wear.

my car has the same problem. it vibrates the whole car for one second then stops and it goes in a cycle. not only the steering wheel shakes but i can feel the shift **** vibrates too.

I think it has something to do with the tires or rims.
my wheels are volk te37. Not sure how to fix this

1. Uneven tire wear
2. Tires need balancing
3. Alignment is off
4. if you have aftermarket wheels and dont' have hub centric rings

If it isn't an alignment issue, it's that the wheels or their hubcentric rings are not mounted properly. Take the wheels off and remount them, torquing the bolts to the correct value in the correct order.

I have the same problem with mine. My car was in the shop early-mid November to get new front tires, alignment, and new rims all around. I noticed the vibration the first day back on the highway at around 80mph. I'm taking it in for an oil change in a few days and I'm going to have them re-balance the wheels to see if it corrects my problem. It should correct it since the tires are new, the rims are OEM and it was just aligned and I don't have a pulling problem.

Got mine back from the dealer on Saturday and they told me my right front was out of balance by 1/2 an ounce. I tested it this morning on the way to work. Hit 90 without a hint of vibration. Start with that first. Probably the cheapest way too.

Change the air in your tires, put your hat on backwards and take the change out of your right pocket and put it in your left pocket.......that's it, problem fixed!

Was searching for something else and thought i'd bring this back to life.

I had this same problem. I had the car balanced and aligned. New tires were recommended but I knew that wasn't it - they had 20 or 30 % left and the wear was even. The car would shake at speed when I turned the wheel - more noticably to the left. Freeways were most noticable especially above 80. It never shook under 50. I had a few mechanics drive it, and finally settled on a bad wheel bearing. Had my driver side wheel bearing replaced and it drove like a dream. I bought the car at 40,000 miles and the bearing went bad at 42,000.
