Default Whining noise when cold

When I start out on a cold day there is a whining noise coming from just forward (I think) of the panel. It goes away in about a half mile. Any ideas? Have you heard this noise?

No, that's different and comes from the right, but it also happens when cold. This is different. BTW it's an '06 Base model.

No fluid change that I know of. I'd take it to the dealer but he would have to drive it when it's cold. Plus, they are very frightened of anything they may have to do other than an oil change - that I pay for.

I have the same issue, it goes away in about 2mins on a cold start. I dont think its anything major. Just check all your fluids are where there suppose to be.

THANK YOU!!! I thought I was the only one--

I'm starting to think it's the Power Steering pump.. it sounds gear related at first.. but I notice it gets louder with the revs (like it might be a belt driven accessory), and it is much louder when turning the wheel and driving. Almost as though the PS pump doesn't have enough fluid when cold?!! lol

It has to be pretty cold, below 20 degrees. The shops around here are not very service oriented. So, if it's not obvious, they're not going to get involved. If the noise could be heard when the car is warm, they might have an opinion.

There are at least two other threads on this. NOBODY KNOWS WHAT IT IS!
Or should I say at least, if it has been identified, nobody knows if it will cause a failure or if it is just a noisy part that will do no harm. Transmissions have been replaced only to have the new one do the same exact thing.

Happy reading. If it makes you feel any better, you are not alone.

Why? Nissan pays for warranty, not the dealer. It's the one thing they do that if they check that it will be covered they know how much it costs and know they will be paid.
