Default Fuel Injector Service

Just dropped my 350z off for the standard 1.5 year service. It's 1.5 years old, but only has 8k miles on it (I know that's very little). Anyway, in addition to the standard service the guy told me I should get fuel injector service which would cost ~$120 and said that it should be done about every year and since I hadn't done it before now would be a good time to do it. I'm a little unclear as to what he meant by fuel injector service tho. I'm not sure whether he literally meant the fuel injector would be just serviced or completely replaced, although for $120 I'm thinking replaced.

I know next to nothing about the maintenance and repair of cars, so can someone tell me if the service guy was just trying to increase my bill or if the fuel injector service is a good idea?

Any tips?

- Chad

Thats ********! Just use good premium fuel and drive it hard. That keeps the injectors clean.

Thanks for the info. I figured as much. I even mentioned to the guy that the fuel injector service is not listed in the car's service manual and he told me that that's because the manuals sometimes leave important things out, which I guess is also BS. Luckily, I told the guy not to include the fuel injector service and that I'd look into it and call the dealer to add it if I wanted it. Nice to know I was right about the guy being full of crap.

Appreciate it.

BTW ---he means they are going to introduce a magic potion to "clean" the injectors----

This is on the same level as the "needed" yearly antifreeze flush

Actually a fuel injection flush and throttle chamber cleaning are good things to do periodically. It does not have to be done, however they do get clogged and the throttle chamber does get full of carbon. The service advisors proper response to "Why is it not in the owner's service manual?" should have been "because it is a dealer recommended service. It's not required to maintain your warranty, however it will benefit your mpg and performance."

His Z is 1.5 years old with 8k miles, there is no way his injectors are clogged or his throttle chamber is full of carbon. That is a waste of money to perform either one of those services that early.

My Z has less then 37k miles and I drive it hard. Never got the above services done. My Z runs stronger then ever. Going by the 1/4 mile times at the track.

just another hussle... of course its "good to do it" but is it necessary if you run premium gas? not likely.

Cleaning the Throttle Body is as simple as it always has been. STP Carb Cleaner, splish splash and your all better

Premium gas or not....there are still detergents left behind that is unburned. All I'm saying is it is a good thing to do periodically. To push the service on someone is not right but the service is beneficial.

Detergents clean certain critical components inside the engine, they do not cause deposits. Detergents remove carbon deposits.

You are partially correct. Some do.

I agree with you I was partially correct. High quality detergents can only clean and extend the life of an engine, poor quality detergents can do the exact opposite. I was speaking personally and I only run Shell V-power, in my opinion the best fuel on the market. If other people run **** fuel that's not my fault and their engine will suffer, which may lead to them needing a fuel injector flush.
