checking tranny fluid
so i go to check my tranny fluid and notice it doesnt have a traditional style handle to pull the stick out and check it,theres a bolt holding it in place?so what, you remove bolt and thats all there is to it?should i even be messing with it,or is this a stealership job?why the bolt?

According to the Owner's Manual, the monZter's supposed to be taken to the stealership
for that. Knowing stealerships, IF you can check it yourself, DO IT! How many miles on your Zed, bro'? Mine has just 17+k, so I'm not worried 'bout that yet.

It's basically there so you (or some shop monkey) don't have easy access to the trans fluid. Nissan is very specific about it's requirement to use Nissan Matic J fluid. If it's hard to get to the trans, they figure you won't bother and accidently top it off with something else.

What hasn't been said is the tranny has no dipstick or measuring device. To check the level of a six-speed manual tranny fluid, you must remove the fill bolt on the side of the tranny and use your finger to feel just inside the hole. It should be level with the fill hole to be topped off.

Checking A/T Fluid ACS003S8
1. Warm up engine.
2. Check for fluid leakage.
3. Remove the tightening bolt for A/T fluid level gauge.
4. Before driving, fluid level can be checked at fluid temperatures of 30 to 50°C (86 to 122°F) using “COLD”
range on A/T fluid level gauge as follows.
a. Park vehicle on level surface and set parking brake.
b. Start engine and move selector lever through each gear position. Leave selector lever in “P” position.
c. Check fluid level with engine idling.
d. Remove A/T fluid level gauge and wipe clean with lint-free paper.
CAUTION:
When wiping away the fluid level gauge, always use lint-free paper, not a cloth one.
e. Re-insert A/T fluid level gauge into charging pipe as far as it will go.
CAUTION:
To check fluid level, insert the A/T fluid level gauge until the cap contacts the end of the A/T fluid
charging pipe, with the gauge reversed from the normal attachment conditions.
f. Remove A/T fluid level gauge and note reading. If reading is at low side of range, add fluid to the A/T fluid
charging pipe.
CAUTION:
Do not overfill.
