Default fixed with a rubber band!

well guys, here is my story. I have an 08 Nismo and that noise came up as soon as I’ve reached 200 miles on my own after the purchase.

I went back to the dealer 10 + times and replaced all the parts listed earlier in this thread. It was then “temporary” fixed and gone... but now that I'm at 30,000 miles, the noise came back and I’m ever so frustrated again. It made me take another look at this problem with the forum and seek for a solution.

I've found this:

https://my350z.com/forum/nismo-350z/...ing-noise.html

The guy some how thought of this rubber band fix that was brilliant. I didn't think it would work until I gave it a try myself. The process only took me 1 minute. Simply tight it like the picture shown in that other thread by Jong2 and the noise is gone.

I've been driven all day since and purposely to the places where the noise would normally reveal itself. Nothing!! I heard nothing but normal road and tire noise. The sanity killing rattling noise is no more.

I thought I’d bring this solution to this thread and hoping that you guys can be benefited from this immediate mend like I did.

All and all, I would say if anyone of you guys are into law and rights, we should write up a petition and have Nissan compensate us for all the time we had to dedicate into this flaw of theirs. It seems to be a wide spread problem and they are not doing a permanent or official fix for us.

I'm a Nissan fan, but I'm certainly not happy about their responds to our problem.

Anyway, I hope the rubber band trick will save you all

^Can you explain how you did it? His method of description fails... I don't think English is his first language.

well I'm simply cut the round rubber band into a straight line. Wrap it around that ball looking thing on the end of the trunk pressure bar like the picture, and tight the knod at the bottom like it shows.

There is really nothing to it. What you see in the picture is what you do. It is really simple, and it works.

Good luck!

Angry Creaking sound coming from rear...

Going to the dealer about this Friday. You know the sound your foot makes when you walk on an old wood floor? I hear that same type of sound coming from my rear compartment whenever I reverse out of a parking spot, hit a bump in the road or head up an incline - especially if the incline is combined with a turn - like in a parking garage for example. Dealer thinks it's the strut tower - we'll see. I have an 08 with roughly 17K. My 03 was noisy in many other ways....but I don't remember anything as annoying as this.

Agreed. It's the rear suspension. Everything in my hatch checks out. I've riddin in the back with all plastic pieces removed and heard the noise coming from outside. Under hatch floor.

anyone checked the evap canisters shield? Mine came loose and was the reason for rattle.
Turns out it wasn't that^ The heat outside made the sound go away. See second post below

I know with 100% certainty it is the suspension.

I've taken apart my hatch, reinforced the evap relocator (for my Greddy Evo2 exhaust) and even had my car on a rolling chassis machine to verify that it wasn't in the drivetrain.

Here's what I've attempted thus far.

I have everything removed out of my hatch. All trim pieces.
I've driven with my hatch open, and still get noise.
I've removed the rear wiper/motor
Doesn't matter if I'm going 10mph over a crack/bump or 90mph. Going up my driveway there is no noise.
Temps have to be below 90 degrees outside in order for the noise to be present. Above 90degrees and the noise is gone mostly. Above 100degrees outside and there is no noise at all.
I've layed my 6ft 3 self in the back with everything removed (I don't recommend) and I still have the sound that seems to come from outside under floor.
It sounds metal to metal. I can get it over big bumps or ruts in road or I can get the noise on smooth as glass road that has a hairline crack in it not even big enough to stick your finger through. If there are no cracks in the road and no pot holes or anything I do not get the noise.
I've adjusted my hatch lock mechanism and wrapped tape around my hatch U shaped metal thing that goes into the hatch lock. I even sprayed litium grease in there and still get the noise.
I've tried the rubber band trick on my hatch struts. Still get noise.

What do I plan to do next?
-I'm leaving my hatch open. I'm not going to place the pieces back in there till I cure the noise. I've read that the rear suspension was changed up just a tad in 2006. So I'm going to attempt to find 2003-2005 pieces on numbers 11, 14, 1, 4, 16, 25, 2, & 5 in the pic below (disregard what's circled)
If that fails I'll lay down some sound dead'n product throughout the whole hatch/trunk. If I still hear the issue with radio off I'm going to file for a lemon law. My Jeep wrangler that is a 2006 and I beat the hell out of off road doesn't make this much noise.
And yes, like others, with the radio and turned up I don't hear the noise. But there are times that I have my girl ride with me and want to have a conversation with her about how she should make sandwiches and I can't/get embarrassed when all sorts of metal rattles are coming from passenger side rear... Sometimes driver side rear.

For some more reading on the rattle check this https://my350z.com/forum/maintenance...g-in-rear.html

The rattle is slowly coming back but only in cold weather. But I know how to get it to stop. The fork at the bottom of the strut has bolt holes that are too large for the bolt, and if you tighten the bolt down, it'll go away for a few months. Look back a few pages and you'll find a YouTube video of the sounds my car made (do your cars do the same?) and then you'll see a poster who made a DIY on plugging the hole so that the bolt fits in snug.

Yeap, mine sounds a bit more metallic then your youtube vid you posted. And by a bit I mean just slightly.
Thanks for chimin in. When you all say struts what exactly is everyone talkin about? Cause we don't have rear struts. Just front struts

I have a 2007 and yep, the noise is there. I tried the rubber band trick also, and it didn't work...haven't taken any of the panels out or touched the suspension yet...so that's prolly next. Very fustrating

Here is vid. You may want to just click on the link as the youtube description explains some things. (Yes I know it's sideways-I shot it with my cell phone)

I shot the video today as I was leaving to go to Dallas, TX (5 hours away) so I put my spare tire back in, the tools for spare, & mat for my bags to sit on. I shook stuff around for you guys so you know what they sound like and know for sure that it isn't those items making the rattle noise.
