Does anyone know if this happens with stock springs/shocks? I had installed Tanabe GF210's and really started to notice the noise. Is it because of the new springs?

im all stock and mine does it like crazy . . . i think its more related to struts/shocks and the shocks mounting hardware . . than springs . . not 100% sure though

Will coil overs eliminate this noise?

I think I found the solution!!!!
Alright... So this guy (https://my350z.com/forum/nismo-350z/...ing-noise.html) had the right idea... Except he wasn't putting the rubber band in the right place. I was looking at my hatch and was like what the hell i'll try it. Right now my car is VERY dirty because of winter. When I opened my hatch and looked around I noticed that the whole area had accumulated dust except for one little part. That part is where the ball from the hatch strut hits the body of the car. I decided to wrap the rubber band around that and voila... NO NOISE!!!!

You see how the rubber band is wrapped around the bottom of the ball? Im sure if that area is completely padded it would be perfect

I'm going to try to take a video of exactly where it is placed tomorrow. Try this and let me know if it works

If I recall correctly, I drove around with my hatch open and it still had the noise so that wouldn't work for me.

I will try again tomorrow anyway.

If you look at the strut... It will probably still hit the car if the trunk is open

This issue is so puzzling, I only hear it at low speed so I don't think it's the struts.

I really think it's my suspension.

If you watched my video that I posted above, and yours sounds the same this might be the solution
You should at least try it... I was about to buy coilovers just to fix the noise... Now I don't necessarily have to get coilovers but...

Hi, I have a 2008 and my rattle started after I had it for about a you. I removed my spare tire and have had someone drive while I was leaning in the back trying to hear where it's coming from. It seems to be coming from under the car in front of my spare tire and towards the passenger side. Is this where others are hearing it?

This is the same exact sound I hear when going over bumps! The temp has to be less than about 65 degrees. I've tried the "rubberband trick" and also padded the area that carlili4190 mentioned, but the sound persists (video attached). Maybe I'll give it another try. This is driving me nuts!

It's like a squeak noise. At least that is what it is in my Z. Drives me nuts.

Another person with the same problem right here....
Same noise as above video.....
At first I thought it was the borla exhaust/muffler but I could never spot where the sound was coming from....
I will try the rubber band trick when I get home to see what that does

Guys, it's the stud that runs through the strut fork. Get a new one from Nissan, or put something around your original one to dampen the sound.

Default I'm so FREAKIN lost

When I first encountered this thread, I was like.... Haha, nice, I'm not having this issue at all. Then yesterday. Oh boy. Rattling in the rear, sounds like near the Z strut is, or further back towards the hatch. I have listened to the first videos posted about the noise, and mine does not sound like that. There was another post by someone, who included a video, and his rattling sounded much more like mine but his is way worse. The original videos sound like a loud THUMP, mine is more like when you take a bunch of tin cans, group them together, and drag them on the street. Does anyone know what I'm talking about. It's not a loud thump to me, just sounds like something is definitely loose. Here's another thing thats bothering me. Everyone is saying their noise comes from the PASSENGER side of the rear. The noise I get from the PASSENGER side is a loud squeaking noise which I can tolerate. Mine is happening directly behind me, the drivers side. First I thought it was the hatch, then the strut bar in the trunk, and now I think its my suspension. Here's why: today I picked up my friend from LAX. On my way there, the noise was definitely talking to me. When I put his luggage into my trunk and he sat in my passenger side, the noise was GONE. WTH? I was then only able to hear that bearable squeaking sound that I'm used to hearing on the passenger side. So I thought, okay, once this guy gets out, the noise will be back. It didn't return. WTH again? I thought that the additional weight pushed the shocks lower so if there were any loose bolts or whatever, they would be forced down more and less play. But the sound was still gone when he left. I know it will return though.

I'm lost guys. There's way too much info in this thread. I'd like to try that space filler thing I saw with the white tubing making sure that the bolt fits on properly but I am no DIY kinda guy. IS THERE ANYONE IN THE SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA REGION (los angeles county) WHO HAS THIS, AND FIXED IT? I would seriously appreciate ANY HELP because this noise is soooooooo annoying and embarrassing. Please please guide me somewhere, guys. It seriously sounds like my strut bar. But I'm not sure after the whole adding weight + no more sound thing. I'm out of warranty. 06 w/ 60k miles.
