my 2nd gear feels weird again on my NEW TRANNY
I just got new transmission replace last thursday 8/28/03. I had problem with my 2nd gear. It felt like it was going to grind & felt a little knoch (something is blocking the way) when shifting from 1st to 2nd. Now that I have a new transmission, I thought every thing was going to be ok but now its starting to happen again. I am begining to feel the knoch again and my 5th & 6th gear is really stiff. Especially the 6th. sometimes I have to force it in
Is any one having same problem with their Tranny whether its your 1st tranny or 2nd (Espcially on 2nd gear)?

Same problem here going into 2nd gear. The weird thing is it is like Shortbus said 80% of the time. The other 20% I get a perfect shift into second. How can it be as smooth as butter one time and lumpy the next time. It drives me nuts. Does this mean we are going to have tranny problems or is this normal?

Where did you have the replacement done?
SSK,
Where did you have your replacement done? I am just about to take mine into Performance Nissan in Duarte for the swap. At this point they say they have only seen one come back and it was an earlier transmission without the changes that have supposedly been made to the design.
Didi you have the celvis pin changes as well?
Thanks,
Stu E.
P.S. I just wonder if it's worth getting done if there's still a problem?

My tranny's been doing this since day one back in late January. It seems to shift better when the oil is warm, but there are plenty of "lumpy" shifts even then. There are just more buttery shifts as the gear oil gets warmer. Second is the only gear I have a problem with. The rest can sometimes feel a bit notchy, but nothing bad at all. Second actually clunks in hard sometimes unless I'm very careful and rev-match.

Also, from what I know, I think they did replace the pin.
As of now, It seems like 2nd gear is getting worse & worse. I am going to wait another week and take it back.
WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH THE TRANNIES

I went to Universal Nissan Today to get my tirepressure senor recalibrated. I talk to the Service Mananger Anthony and he was also having some issues with his 2nd gear. At first , He thought it was his imagination but after talking to some Z owner, He was not the only one. He said that I was his 5th customer that said the same thing. He gave me his business card and the took my phone number down. He said that he was going to order a new tranmission for this Z and do some investigation. He said he will get back to me.
Anthony was great.

Could be just me, but after hearing the un-repairing effects of replacing Z trannies, I'd now actually rather keep my originally factory installed tranny than have it replaced by anyone. At least i guess mine isn't ALL that bad. I call it a MOODY car, which what the Zs have been very reputable for. Unless of course this is actually causing damage to the tranny....

Update.
last week I took my car to the dealer again because I was still having problem with my new tranny. I ask them to adjust my clutch to see if it will make it better. As of today, about a week after getting the clutch adjusted, I am still having problems with my 2nd gear.

Did I ever mention, if I double clutch my 2nd gear in my first couple of shifts after i start the car cold, it doesn't stick. On the other hand, it's starting to even grind sometimes on the first shifts if I don't double clutch it. Double Clutching is clutch, shift out of 1st into neutral, unclutch, reclutch then shift to 2nd.
In Europe you'd actually fail your driving exam if you don't double clutch through all your gears i hear from my sister :-o

EDIT: The Boxster S I test drove also had a sticky 2nd gear and my boss said his 911 also has a sticky 2nd gear.
Who the heck knows....

My 04 has the exact same problems as mentioned by ssk0771 and shortbus. I'm also hesitant to have the factory installed tranny removed, so I'm going to wait and see if it gets worse.
