Default Need two questions answered please!

I wanna switch my oil over to German Castrol, but have two reservations.

1. Does the 0w-30 decrease or increase mpg compared to 5w-30 or 10w-30?

2. I understand that the German Castrol is more than, acceptable for the winter because of its weight. Does it have any adverse affects in the summer? or is it the perfect oil for all seasons?

I know, I posted three questions, contrary to the title.

I'm not familiar with "German Castrol", but I can only assume 0w-30 is too thin for summer, at least for us in California. I don't think I'd ever run 0w-30 in any weather, seems too thin to provide any kind of protection.

I figured since 5w-30 is the recommendation, then by dropping the temperature rating to 0 would still make it feasible to use in the summer also? That is my train of thought at the moment. If anybody can help me out, I would appreciate it. I am a novice and need to be schooled on this oil. Thanks in advance.

1. 0W-30 is thinner, so should increase MPG slightly but hardly noticeable.
2. 0W-30 is okay for all season.

I personally use 5W-30 per Nissan's recommendation.

0 is the viscosity when the oil is cold. 30, after it reaches operating temp. A 0-30w oil will cirrculated better in your engine at start-up than 5-30 will. Once the car reaches operating temp, they are the same. I run 0-40 European synthetic formula from Mobile 1...

Read this thread. It should shed some light:

Also, IIRC... German Castrol 0w-30 is very similar in viscosity and pretty much the same as Mobil1 5w-30. Forgot where I read this, but they were tested along with other brands.

Anyone wanna clear this up for me?
