Default Central Locking & Gearbox questions

Just bought a brand new 08z.

Couple of questions, not sure if they are faults or not:

Central Locking:

When I press the "lock" button from the drivers panel, it only seems to lock the passengers side and not the drivers side door.. is this normal?

Gearbox:

Gearbox seems very stiff and hard to get into gear even with the clutch fully depressed. Sometimes when i'm going from 1st to 2nd gear I can hear a noise and almost feels as though i can feel it hit something moving.

A lot of the time when I start off out of my driveway in 1st gear, i'm gong down hill and change into second gear (about 3000 revs at this point) I hear a clunking noise when I depress the clutch... is this normal? Its only 1st to 2nd which makes a noise occasionally, all other gears are fine.

The clunking noise only happens when i'm in 1st going downhill and change into 2nd gear.

Thoughts/comments?

I had a previous issue on my first service with a rattling noise coming from the rear of the car when driving - the noise disappeared at higher speeds. They dismissed it and said "its a very highly strung car", I persisted and eventually they found a loose heat shield which they then secured and the noise went away.

I spoke to them about the clutch noise and they said "its a manufactured sports car so this is normal".

Central locking: should lock/unlock all doors

Gearbox: Normal to feel vibrations/etc.... but don't believe there should be any noises when getting into gears.

Cool, so just to confirm.. when you press the lock button on the keypad next to the window controls it should lock all doors?

What happens if you press the button twice? Also, does your driver's side door unlock when you press the lock button? If it doesn't, it may be your door lock actuator.

Bump on this one, anyone else have this problem?

I'm about to take the car in for its 2nd service and don't want to get screwed around.

The Central Locking should lock all the door, if not, there is something wrong with the system, you check it first.

It sounds like there is a problem, hopefully only minor and easity adjusted. normally, there are slight sounds from the (gear)box , nothing that should alarm you though. As you clock up > 5000 then things (engine/gearbox) should feel even "smoother"

Undue stiffness is not normal. When clutch disengaged (pedal fully depressed) geabox should select any gear at rest with little effort. Less so once the donk is fired up. First impressions - clutch / pedal needs adjusting - hopefully thats all it needs. If it feels like it gets slightly easier once you get rolling for 3 mins or so, that could be it, as when clutch/gearbox warms up they tend to disengage easier. Worse case scenario...gearbox problems or clutch needs replace. But if its new as you say then that shoukd rule out all but clutch adjustment.

Mate, my ******** detector starting going berserk as soon as I read this - Crikey! give me a break. Are they comin' the raw prawn? Stone the crows!
Sounds like they are pissin' down your pants son.
I'd take a pice of 4 by 2 to 'em and show to "highly string this..."

Translation from Aussie to American - they are giving you the run around. Get rid of 'em as soon as you can get them to fix the problem.

Gee.

Gee.

Thanks dude.... I'm also an aussie too btw

This is a link to a mp4 file with the noise.... please turn your speakers up load as I recorded it with my iphone from inside the car so its pretty quiet.

The sound occurs just after the 15 second mark... its a clunking noise following by a wheezing noise....

Let me know what you all think.. car goes into service centre on wednesday next week.

Sounds like clutch pedal needs adjusted... i'd try that first. Does the shifting get smoother once the engine is warmed up?

BTW your dealer sounds like they are a bunch of asshats... take your car somewhere else if you can.

BTW how many miles on your Z when bought and how many now?

If I shift quickly from 1st - 2nd the sound doesnt happen, if I shift slow.. the sound happens...

30Kms on the car when I bought it, now 6000Kms (8 months), its an 08 model.
