Default Trans and Clutch Issues

Hello,

My 06 350z 6MT is having some issue with the transmission and clutch. Car has 51,000 Miles, had the transmission replaced under waranty at 42,500 miles, and again at 46,000 miles along with a new factory clutch (I paid for the cluch, saved on the labor). Yes, I know.. this last 10,000 miles has been a blast. Anyways, yesterday while driving in semi-stop and go traffic, all of a sudden the clutch pedal stuck to the floor while engaging to go into 2nd. I pulled the pedal up with my foot and it stayed and from that point on, regardless of stop/ go or getting on the freeway, the pedal stays at the 3/4 mark unless I pull it up. Also, while the car was in this "pissy mood" the usually noisy tranny was extremly loud, sounded like an old ford escort's valvetrain ticking! Just dricing down the street at 25mph passing cars, no shifting or anything, it was ticking LOUDLY and you could tell it was from the trans.

I checked the cluch fluid, it is full. With it being a new transmission (not a rebuilt) as well as a new clutch, the fluid was bled and the case would have new fluid. I'm going to let the car sit for the day, maybe cool down and see if the problem is gone.. but is there anything else I should look at? I'd hate to take it back out to the dealership and spend an hour spitting fire, but man, this is getting rediculous. I feel like pushing it off a cliff right now, lol.

3 transmissions and 51,000 miles? How about a call to a lemon law attorney.

OP, please do a search on "clutch pedal sticking" and you'll get plenty of info on your problem. It's a problem that pops up for a lot of people when summer rolls in.

That's a route that will be taken if it goes in again for similar problems.

I did search and found info about hto whether/ sticking issues.. however, nothing spoke about the ticking noice that is concurrent with the issue happening. Thanks for the info.

I think part of the clutch pedal sticking is that the clutch line runs close to the exhaust manifold and causes vapor lock of the clutch fluid. Some people had better luck when changed to a Nismo clutch line and Motul RBF600, i think the combination makes it more resitant to vapor lock since the fluid has a much higher boil point.

Thanks for the reply, my service tech at the dealership just told me the exact same alternates. I've ordered the parts and can't wait to change them out. Hopefully, this occurance doesn't happen again, it's scarry and annoying as hell!

I had the exact same problem with the clutch getting stuck 3/4 way down and had to pop it back up with my foot during hot weather.

Just change your clutch fluid, I used Motul DOT 5.1 and no problems so far and the clutch still going strong even at the track shifting at redline.

Yea many of my customers have had good luck with the Motul brake fluids (most of which used RBF600). Perhaps wrapping the clutch line or the exhaust manifold with heat wrap might alleviate the problem.
