touchless washes are fine, its not the washes fault the rubber on your window wasnt properly seated... Personally, I hand wash my car almost every day and use meguiars quick detailer all the time but I have no issues with touchless car washes. if ur short on time who cares, its just a car

Just a car, for the most part the 2nd most expensive thing you'll own in life (after a house). Having it for long period of time you might as well take care of the paint so you would not have to spend thousands to repaint the car in the future.

If it's just a car then why do you hand wash it then? Just run it through the drive through all the time because it'll save you time.

Screw car washes automatic or not. The hand operated ones have detergents in them that break down your wax. So even if you use a bucket at them you are still screwed.
And for Gods sake NEVER use the dam brush! Think about the last guy in a muddy 4 x 4 that used it before you.

as if you needed more reason to avoid a touchless car wash.

Not all use it. But, the thing is, it works. It may not be good for you. It may etch your paint/clear coat if improperly mixed or left on too long (to use less - its expensive stuff), but it does a very good job of cleaning.... too good if used improperly.
Car Washes are under tighter scrutiny and HF no longer become profitable when they must reclaim the water.

ever wondered how some commercial wheel cleaners used by car washes (and some dealers) are able to strip away brake dust AND Nissan/Infiniti's sweet hyperblack finish? HF. It hungers for your finish (and the calcium in your bones). nasty stuff.
Some people have no choice with water bans. You should ask the operator of the car wash. Most are quite proud to no longer use HF. And in water ban areas, it's probably been stopped anyway. But you should ask.

I found this so interesting. dunno why.. looks like they blow alot of stuff off cars with air driers
http://www.carwash.com/board.asp?Board_ID=6
basically thats a forum for the operators. With topics like 'cars with low profile tires', they care about wheels.. and try to buy the right equipment, but it still doesnt get maintained and your wheels get damaged.
I also found it interesting where operators were discussing claims where people came back days or weeks later and claimed damage. I'm inclined to believe their cars did get damaged there, but it's a different to see the operators talking about these issues.

Wow the same thing happened to me, except I was washing my car by hand. I was spraying water after soaping and I noticed that the black rubber thing was out of place. Kinda hard to put back in but I didn't see any water get into my trunk. Maybe i should check again.
