Rear hatch will not open, yes I did read the owners manual!
I am a newbie but I think my problem is real. I have a 08 Touring Coupe and the hatch release in the license plate housing does not work. The key fob will open the hatch. How does one open it by pushing the button by the plate housing? I inserted the key into the door, turned it counterclockwise once like it says then it says push the power door lock switch to the UNLOCK side...WTH does that mean. I have tried every combination and no luck. Most likely I am doing something wrong. Any help for this newbie would be appreciated! Thanks!

Yeah, try pressing the unlock button twice in succession to unlock all doors, not just the drivers. Then, press the button above the plate. The mechanism should operate and let the hatch pop open. Otherwise, take it back to the dealer and have them fix it.
btw,
aren't those the 370z base wheels?

I tried pushing the door unlock button twice in succession and no luck. Must be a burnt fuse or something. Hate to go back to the dealer, always a hassle! Yes those are 370 base wheels, just got the car a few weeks ago and worked the deal and got them for free from the dealer as part of the package as the stock rims had severe road rash. LOVE EM!

Thanks for nothing R350Zz33! I know about the windows you moron, I HAVE read the owners manual. If you cannot help with the problem, go and play with your barbies...

nothing from the dealer is free, not even my "free" oil changes for life
Sounds like something is wrong in the BCM (Body Control Module) area. I have the same issue because I had ran wires through there so now I have that problem.. I either shorted out that wire or accidently drilled through it. I have been lazy to look at it though.
Sounds like you're going to have to take it to the dealer. How long ago did you purchase? You may be able to get it fixed for free.

OK R350Zz33, just by looking at how you write, I can tell that you are most likely a high school dropout who never made it past the 10th grade. Just by looking at your profile I can see that you are an 18 year old punk with no respect for anyone, including yourself. So lets see who the smart one is shall we?
1. Starting a sentence with lol?
Poor Grammar
2. " i remember when some kid got a 350z by me"
Does this statement mean that you sold him the car or that he lived by you? Or with you???
-30 points3. When does someone pause when reading your note? Awesome punctuation dude.
-25 points4. "dident"???
5. "nocking"???
6. "windows magic"???
- 5 pointsOut of a possible 100 points, it looks like you get a ZERO. Reflective of your life I am sure. Sounds fitting to me...
I need to stop there because I cannot bring myself to waste anymore of my valuable time on your pathetic existence.
(by the way, I did not see any pictures of your "so called Z" on your empty profile (fitting as well) which is most likely a riced out piece of crap if you even have one). Do not waste any more of anyones time with your poor grammar and idiotic bull.
Last you will hear from me...idiot
Thanks to everyone else for the help with my issue. I went to the dealer today and they currently have the car and are fixing the problem! Cheers!

Does your license plate lights work? Why I ask is this happened to me before, The plug that provides power to the button and the license plate came undone, You can try to take the bumper off to get to it but I took about a hour of reaching and scratched knuckles and I managed to connect them again.
I completely feel your pain on this one, amigo - sick looking Z btw.
My 2004 model had a similar issue which happened one afternoon in which the button above the license plate would depress, however no satisfying "pop" would follow, so I did some electrical exploring and it turns out that the button under the rubber had been (amazingly) pressed I suppose incorrectly over the years enough to wear the mechanism in an odd sideways fashion...
Sorry, anyways long story short it required a mere button replacement which at the time I lacked the knowledge to complete.
the longer I get into this the dumber it sounds since you have a 2008 and an over abundance of pressing surely isnt the issue.
