Could also be the tiny sensor switch that detects when the shifter is pushed into reverse.

Inside the IPDM (Intellegent Power Distribution Module) in what Nissan calls the Engine Room (under the hood!) fuse #71 is for the backing lights, it's a 10A. From there the circuit runs to relay E19 which is controlled by that switch I mentioned - and provides power to the two backing lights.

Funny story...mine went out and the dealer said my IPDM was bad. The car wouldn't start either, but if I push started it, it was fine. Had them replace it @ $1000. Got curious and started poking around, and found that it was that fuse mentioned above. Long, long story short I threatened to sue the dealership and they refunded my money. If your car starts and the lights are your only problem, I bet its your relay and not the fuse.

check the switch in the gear box itself
i had the same issue and found out the switch on the gear box itself was gone bad.
it was 30$ fix.

good luck with it.

on the gear box case itself, next to the gear mounts. there is a blue switch that controls the reverse light. if that one is damaged then you wont get the rear light to work.. its a simple fix.

check the pic below: forget about the part number. this is for another car, but its the same concept.

I had a problem with no reverse lights. I also had no cruise control and SES light at the same time. error code said netrual assembly switch or something. turns out some rodents (I suspect a groundhog) had chewed some wiring underneath the car which caused my problem. Check the wiring underneath and the associated switch that someone posted earlier.
