Default Nissan dealership sent me home with this...

I go to my local nissan dealership trying to get some nissan tranny fluid to flush my trans. They sent me home with 3 quarts of "shell spirax ew(extended warranty) gear oil" 75w-90. Apparently the mechanics there always change tranny fluid with this stuff. But it says its made for big rig differentials. Is this what i should have? 3 quarts? Dont tell me to get redline.

Do you have an automatic or a manual trans?

And yes, big rigs use 75-90wt in their axles. They only use 50wt in the trans though.

API GL-4 is suitable for the manual transmission. Capacity 3 1/8 quarts.

It says on the bottle, "Meets API GL-5 & MT-1 specifications"

From 350ztech
Warning!!

Do not use GL5 transmission fluid. It will damage the synchros in the Nissan transmission. You need GL4 fluid. Most fluid you buy at autoparts stores is GL5.

What is the deal with GL4/5 oil?

I thought i might add to this, after much reading.

GL4 (additive package 4) contains anti rust agents. GL5 (additive package 5) contains demulsification agents.

The demulsification agents in GL5 spec oil are known to cause premature corrosion of yellow metals ie:- brass, which i believe are used in the 350z Transmission.

Knowing stealership, they'll blame the problem on something else. Just return the fluid and get the correct one.

that would be nice, but in all actuality, they would say you installed it and didnt use your owners manual.........and say you asked for that fluid.........your word against theirs.........

now if you took it in and you got a receipt of them putting that issh in your car at the service department and later your car blew up and then item 2 happened..........then i think you could end up with completing item 3-5... but that would be a bisch of a time when all you wanted was a tranny fluid flush..........

^^^

Bottom Line - use the right fluid, don't waste your time and be done with it!
