Found a 350Z design flaw :(
While reading my owners manual I discovered what seems like a design flaw.
The trunk can only be opened using electric power. That could be a problem if you kill the battery or blow fuses.
Nissan thought of that and put a backup opener in the storage box behind the passenger's seat. BUT, if you have no battery power and you have power seats how the HECK are you going to get in there to access the backup system?
It's even worse on the roadster. To put the top up in case of electrical failure you can disconnect the motors from the top mechanisms. To do that you need to get in the trunk. To do THAT you need to move the passenger seat!
I don't suppose there is some way to move the seat without power?
Grrr, why do I think of these things!?!?!?!

i dont know about your model.. but i have a lever on the back of my passenger seat that i can pull easily from the driver side to bend the seat over so i can reach the storage box behind it.. if that's what u're talking about..
Provided your car is unlocked, you can just pop the trunk with the button over the license plate.
And yes, the Zs with electric seats still have a manual release on the right side of the seat.

That said, you'd have to be really dumb to get yourself locked in the trunk of a coupe

No kidding?
Hmmm I will have to look again. I guess I just overlooked it .

Correct, you don't need power to pop open the hatch with the button over the rear license plate.

Really?
I thought it was just an electrical switch.
Even if this is true, you need electricity in the car to unlock the trunk.

It is sort of a nuisance since the electric is slow.
It would have been nicer of the seat back switch just unhooked the seat back from the electric motor. You could then tips the seat up quickly to get in the rear storage area.
Oh well.
The switch over the license plate is a power switch. If you disconnect your battery it will not work. Anyone that says different has not tried it with the battery disconnected.
there is no design flaw.
1. I have the touring w/ power seats. The passenger seat tilt function is still just a manual lever. On that seat, only the forward/back is electric.
2. There is a manual pull string on the bottom of the strut bar. If you have no power you can contort yourself from the front seat, reach back to the underside of the strut bar and pull the string. (the finger pull-tag on the end of the string is velcro'd to the strut so that you can't see it) and the hatch opens. tada.

They must have changed it.
On my 2040 roadster the seat is electric (sliding front and back) as well as electric recline. There is no manual release for the seat back that I can see.

I believe that is a roadster feature not a 2004 feature, and also obviously, no strut bar, meaning no manual trunk release

It is in the glove box behind the passenger seat....
which can't be moved without power.
D'Oh!
I am not really too worried. Even a battery to dead to start the car can probably move the seat. If is more of a "what were they thinking" sort of thing.
it makes no sense at all actually, cause the purpose of the strut bar release is not for people to use... its a safety feature designed to allow people trapped in the trunk to get out... kinda odd cause its a hatch, but its required for all cars with a trunk I thought, just incase. but the manual release in the glove box wont help someone locked in the trunk.(specially since itd have to be a 2 year old baby to fit
)

P.S. sorry for being a smarta$$, justa little bored at work and when I saw that I could not help my self to resist.
