Oil Leak | Oil Pressure Sending Unit
Hey everyone,
I just got my summer tune-up underway and ran into a bit of an issue. After changing my trans, diff and engine oil, I decided to replace the Oil Pressure Sending Unit since my gauge was acting wacky. With the engine oil drained, I removed the old OPSU with a 15/16 wrench and installed the new one with some threadlock. It fit tight and no leaks were apparent, even the gauge was finally working again!
I took my brother's car to work since I wanted to change the belts and such on my Z when I got home.
After returning home I noticed a small puddle of oil under my engine. I raised the car and wiped everything down. And noticed it was coming, very slightly, from the new OPSU. I removed the OPSU, cleaned the threads, applied threadlock and a slight bit of Hondabond (silicone oil resistant sealant) to the base. I let the car sit for about 15 minutes and no oil was leaking. After firing up the car and lowering it once again, I noticed the drip had returned. Does anyone have any experience with changing this out? If so, what am I doing wrong that I am getting a leak?
The OPSU is located by the oil filter, right next to the oil cooler/heater and it's corresponding hose.
Thanks,
AR

Replaced the oil pressure sending unit with one from Autozone. Thought I had it torqued right but it drips a few drops on the ground per day. Ive tried loosening it a bit and tightening it a bit but it still leaks. It is threaded in about halfway just like the original. I ordered an OEM sensor from Nissan to see if that might have a better fit but I'm at a loss on how to stop this leak. Maybe some plumbers tape on the threads?

My guess is plumber's tape or liquid plumbers tape but use sparingly. Only wrap the last few threads that go into the engine you do not want PTFE(teflon) in your oil system.
"BSPT (British Standard Pipe Thread) is similar to NPT except for one important difference. The angle across the flanks of threads (if you sliced the fitting in half long-ways and measured the angle from root to crest to root) is 55 degrees instead of 60 degrees as it is for NPT. Thus an NPT male will fit into a BSPT fitting or vice versa but they will not seal. This is a popular fitting in China and Japan but is very rarely used in North America unless the equipment to which it is attached was imported. Thread sealant is needed to seal the male and female fitting together."
