For them to thoroughly inspect it, they wanted like a $165 diagnostic fee...plus I'm one of those ppl that believe the dealer has and knows the least info about the cars they sell and fix =)

May give Seafoam a try...

Default probably valve lifter and or bearing

My car has the same noise but no where as loud. The first time I noticed it was after spanking a modified wrx. I was a little low on oil and planned an oil change the next day, but the wrx was begging for a spanking. Spoke to two different mechanics including Mike from ALTERED ATMOSPHERE, they both said it was the same thing; scratched lifter in the vave train, i think they said. I went back to 5w30 and monitered my oil more closely. 1500 miles seems to need a quart. Any way, the sound seemed to almost vanish and some days never appears. I believe your car is suffering the effects of the heavy oil comsumtion that is inherent in our cars, and valve train and maybe bottom end work may be necessary.

It is a brand of aftermaket engine rod. They are common in built engine VQs that are doing normal F/I hp or budget builds. They are solid rods for 98% of builds.
