My 06 350Z just hit 31k miles. It has been well maintained.
Randomly, the car wont start but cranks great.

1.5 years ago this happened once on a freezing cold morning. After taking a hot air blow dryer to the throttle body the car started right up.

Recently I installed the Motordyne MREV2 lower collector and ever since, the car regularly will not start. The symptoms are that of an unprogrammed key. The dash light responds accordingly to let me know in fact that the car does recognize the transponder in my key so I know the key is not an issue.

Hot air blow dryers pointed at the throttle body no longer help either as the problem happens when it is both warm and cold outside.

Level of fuel is also not an issue.

Battery is in perfect condition.

NOTE: If i roll the car and pop the clutch that works every time (momentum provided).
Any help is appreciated.

You sure it's not the clutch pedal sensor? The hairdryer to the throttle body thing obviously wouldn't effect this, but figured I'd ask.

 

The car cranks (starter activates) leading me to believe its not the clutch pedal sensor. When I don't press the clutch and turn the key nothing happens.
Good suggestion though!


Update: Today while in 6th gear (wasnt paying attention) at about 40 mph the car sputtered a lot as if it wanted to stall out. With a lower powered car I could understand wanting to stall out if in too high of a gear but on 270whp+ vehicle... Also noticed that it seems the car wont start after being parked after I've driven it hard.

The car usually starts after being parked after being driven normally (light acceleration).

 

Possibly your fuel filter?

 

Update:

Still a regular/random problem. After rolling it down a hill and popping the clutch while in 2nd gear the car started and shut down as I tried to pull away.

After rolling start 2 it started again and idled rough. The car died after I put it in neutral to coast to a stop light.


The car has also been idling oddly" It sound like the engine shuts down for a fraction of a second repeatedly which causes a slight shake in the cabin and also results in a bubbling sounding exhaust.

faulty MAF, bad cam sensor(s), bad throttle body

 

Could be a fuel pump shi*ting out. Check fuel pressure while cranking.

 

i am having the same problem lmk if you found a solution

 

Anyone figure out what's happening have same problem with my 03 but just changed both cam sensors and now it won't start at all I put old passenger back inNd it ran rough
